How do you guys get your Ipod to the driver's side? The deck (Kenwood)is on the passenger side, the interface I bought (PIE KNW/13-POD) is only 6 feet. I found an extension at Crutchfield (Kenwood CA-C2EX), but it's only another 6 feet. Still not enough to go around the front to the driver's side. Guess I could get 2 of the extensions, but at $30 a pop I would end up with about $100 total in cables! I can't seem to find a way to run the cable straight across under the floor either. Am I missing something? Thanks for any input! Boat is an 07 Moomba Outback.

Does the PIE unit allow the deck to control the I-pod or does it just charge the I-pod and give you audio into the deck?

You can get the cable at Radio Shack for like $12 that will go through the bow and around to the drivers side. Should be something like this:

I actually have a MS Zune, but both the Zune and IPOD are 1/4 connectors.

That kenwood setup is a dock connector if i remember correctly that controls teh ipod. Your best bet would be to extend the cable from the ipod control box (assuming there is one), and mount that closer to the drivers side. But good luck....precisely why i've avoided these type of ipod setups.

I don't mount the Ipod, it floats around the boat. Usually someone takes charge of the tunes and holds onto the Ipod so they can select the tunes and operate the volume (we find it much easier to control volume at the Ipod instead of the head control unit).

I have a 12' cord that allows the Ipod to be anywhere in the boat.

Recently picked up a new boat with the deck in the glove and found what I believe to be the best solution. I wanted to run the Harmon Kardon Drive + Play, but there is just no way with the short cables. I bought a similar unit to the link below from a local car stereo shop. The one I got didn't come with a line driver, but I spent the 30 bucks on one as well which I'd recommend. I was able to wire in the power and ground right under the dash, the RCA's into the Line Driver, and ran a 25 foot RCA around the bow to the head unit. It looks factory with the only thing coming down out of the dash is the 6 ft. power/play cord. The beauty for me is that it utilizes the dock plug versus the headphone to not only play, but keep the ipod charged, and the line driver gives the signal a boost. I just put a small piece of velcro on the dash so I (the driver) can keep it handy to make the musical choices, and mounted a remote to work the head unit volume.

Stanfield.....FYI.....you can run the Drive + Play around to your drivers side without any problems.

i have a red and white rca cable (AUX) coming out of the head unit. this is what i would plug the drive + play into. in order to get it over to the drivers side, i just bought a long rca cable and then you can buy a male to male or male to female connector piece. maybe cost me $15 i think.
i hope i explained that correctly.
