Can a standard trailer with brakes be converted to one with a swing away tonue? Where can I purchase parts?

Custom job, but can be done. Get a good welder involved. You will need to put in some flexible lines for the brakes.

PivitHitch (Extreme Trailer product) has a conversion package. $300 and do it yourself.

John,

That is so informative. I'm looking forward to doing it to my trailer as well. Thanks for the info.

Or convert to electric over hydraulic, so you don't have hydraulic lines in the swing portion of the tongue, and get better brakes in the process.

There are a few trailers that can not be easily turned into a folding tongue, like the ones that have the two outside rails run all the way up to just behind the hitch.

Peter is right. I was excited about converting my trailer, but then found out that my trailer is just how Peter described it. Oh well.

Electric brakes are O.K. for travel trailers and horse trailers, but a bad idea for trailers that get submerged in water frequently.
