see how much play the belt has in it after you've tightened it, at the longest section between pulleys. anymore than 1/2 inch and you'll want to get it tighter. if there isn't any play in it, then you're putting too much strain on the pulley's and the bearings will wear. you don't need the dealer for a belt. find a leverage point, put your pry bar in there and gently apply pressure. the longer the bar, the more leverage you get so don't hee-man it. tighten whichever bolt you had to loosen and check the belt for play. rinse, repeat.
