Agreed.... That would be nice to see. I'd like to see them compared unloaded, too. The new chevy's are doing pretty well with regards to economy since they intro'd the 6 speed gearbox.
Awesome vid, that motor sounded alot bigger than a v6 in the video. Looks like they really aren't sparing any expense on testing this one out, guess they expect big things from it. I've got an exploder with the v6 in it and I can't get 20mpg out of it so not sure how they will pull that off with a much heavier vehicle?
the 4.o in your exploder is about as old technology as you can get. That thing is a turd. Thus, the reason it is not in production. Ecoboost=420 lb/ft 4.0L=200ish? thats like a 1991 non turbo power stroke to a 2011 psd. New technology makes it appels to oranges.
Nu, the 4.0 is pretty crappy. In fact the Ranger and the new 5.0 F150 get the same fuel economy! The new motors are just so more efficient in every way. The newer motors all but shut down fuel when breaking or decelerating, heck they even use alternators that are more efficient. Anything to squeeze out better numbers for CAFE.
Incidentally, I drove the new F150 with the 5.0 (365HP/380TQ) and it rips compared to the 5.4. HUGE difference. I'll do a little write up on it soon.
Hey Hate! I've been messing around the Ford site and I see where the 2011 has a 5.0 FFV option. Is this the same 5.0 you drove which is what I guess is the Ti-VCT?
Yeah its the same motor. Again, I was very impressed with it. The 5.0 just seemed so much more powerful than the 5.4 and married to the transmission better. The shifting was fluid.
