Stubborn Water Spot Removal

I've had some stubborn water spots just under the rub rail on my boat for a while. I've tried a number of products that didn't want to take them off. (Even buffing didn't want to take care of them, I was getting close to wet sanding them!) I normally wipe down with a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and distilled water (not always, just when I have spots), and that didn't want to take care of them. Last night I experimented a little... I tried spraying some full strength vinegar on there and letting it sit for a minute, and then scrubbed with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser wetted with vinegar, and it took them right off.... Now it's nice and smooth under there, and I just need to hit it with some more wax.

So, if you've got some stubborn spots that won't come off, give it a try!

I had some stubborn water spots, well actually the whole side of the boat. I haven't been to nice to her this year! And water and vinegar didn't work but i used the Meguiars clay bar system and it worked flawlessly! Took a little bit of time but the smooth and shiny surface is well worth the time! I think the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is actually just a clay bar? So same basic thing. I just used quick detailer spray as a lubricant.

Also found some real cheap vinyl seat cleaner at Wal-Mart of all places that did an amazing job of lifting the dirt off my vinyl seats! Stuff is called Blue Magic Leather & Vinyl Cleaner. Worked just as good as the expensive stuff I use to buy if not better.

The Magic Eraser is not a clay bar or facsimile, it's a very mild abrasive and will scratch anything it touches, some surfaces more than others. Depending on color you won't see them but it does. The clay bar method is better as it doesn't scratch.

Try using Limeaway for tough water spots. I had some from last season that I couldn't get off and Limeaway took them off with ease and without harming my gel coat. First I washed the boat, sprayed Limeaway, immdeiately wiped it off with a rag, then immediately rinsed.

Afterwards you will need to re-wax your boat.

The Magic Eraser is a sponge of some type.... It is very mildly abrasive, but I can't see any scratches on my bright red boat under the fluorescent lights in the garage....
