anyone know a cheap place to find underwater housings for camcorder. rediculous to spend more for a housing then the camara itself. i have a jvc gz-mg130. if anyone has one they want to get rid of i would be interested in it also.

Not when you consider the fact that the housing is more important than the camera is.

If that housing fails, you're 100% screwed.

ya i figure that. just think it is rediculous spending 500 $ on a camara and then having to spend 600+ $ on a housing. i can see $200. so if any one has one they want to sell or know of where to get good housing for a good price that would be great. thanks

$600 expensive? Not even close! Try more like $2,500-$5,000 for a DSLR housing, and yes the housing is more than the camera and lens. Check the camera manufacturer for a housing, and you might be able to find one on ebay. Ikelite is another brand to check for. If you are just using it on the surface and not submerging it search out EWA Marine for more info.

surface mainly. using on pwc and on a tub being pulled behind the boat shooting wakeboarding. also maybe while boarding.

The EPIC housing might be tough while boarding because it's heavy.. The EWA bags is going to be the lightest and probably the cheapest, but I wouldn't consider it to be as secure as a hard-shell housing (more a splash protection even though you can go to 3m or so with the bag).

It's a bit out-dated, but perhaps it will give you some good leads: http://www.dpcfilms.com/HowTo/articles/UnderwaterHousings/index.asp

There was an article on wakeworld a while ago about making your own underwater housing. It looked pretty good but I never got around to building one to try it out. If you are going to just be shooting from tube or jet ski or something you most likely don't need a full hard housing. You will want to be careful with it but you mostly need good splash protection.

I wish I could get a housing for under $600! I'm close to $4500 all in with all the accessories already and I still need another lens port!

Try a Bag!
