Arthur Morris, the Canon bird photographer, offered one of his used 400 f5.6L's for sale in his newsletter recently for $500. I emailed him immediately because I have been looking for one and you never see them for sale, let alone that cheap. He told me it wasn't pretty cosmetically (no kidding) but that it just had a new lens mount put on it by Canon as well as the AF tuned.

Anyhow it's turned out to be a really sharp lens in spite of it's appearance so I'm really happy with it. Since Chris is gone to Shasta my new hobby will be shooting ducks!

It's actually way harder then it looks and is kind of fun! Anyhow here are some of my initial shots.

I look like a pro with this beat up set up!

This one's kind of funny, someone yelled at this skier "you can't do that" as this is in the new "no tow zone" (or will be) on weekends. I think she responded with an FU - Right on! LOL

I'd love to have that bad boy. It's so Hard to get close enough to wild life with the 70-200.

nice Rick! the duck wings down on the water photo is great, you should get that up on a stock photo offering company.. it would sell.

I think I have lens envy

Must also agree with the 200mm not being enough, as my 18-200mm just does not get close enough for shooting birds and other wildlife...and errrr...uhhhh sometimes I DO NOT WANT to get that close to big hairy creatures.

That first shot of the duck is excellent, Rich. I know what you mean when you say it's more difficult shooting birds than you'd think. It took me two hours to get two 'ok' shots of a hummingbird in the backyard.

And, I'm 100% jealous of the new glass - especially at that price. The shot of the rocks and truck show it's still putting out sharp captures.

A few more from the mkIII. I really like the way this body handles color.
