Peeps, at my lake in the UK the banks are flat and so we get lots and lots of back wash just bouncing off of it. What ideas or things do you knonw of to help sort this problem out. There is talk of getting some land fill to grade the banks to 1 in 8 but that may not come off for all sorts of reasons, so what else can we do ... I've heard something about tyres being used at cypress gardens or seomwhere? HElp, PLEASE!!??

Tires will actually break down and pollute the water. Like COSMOCAT said large stones along the shore or large odd shaped concrete blocks will do the same thing. I am not sure what they are called but they look like huge x's.

OK, thanks guys ... anyone else got some great ideas ... or know what the thing at cpress gardens is ... those tyres? Take point that they may degrade and pollute though, but not sure CG would use them if that was the case ...

Tires can work is properly arranged and secured. They are stable, but the steel belts and wire rope to secure them does rust and degrade over time. There is a device called the Wave Brake. It works, but is expensive.

Reducing waves and wakes on a small lake begins at 2 meters below the surface and ends .5 meters above the surface. You have to take wave-form energy and both slow it down and spread it out. This has to be done for the wave approaching the shore and then after expending its energy on the shore.

This is design process that is far too complex for this forum.
