pylon rack too big for pole

I just bought a pylong skylon rack on ebay. I asked the seller if it would fit a 2.5" pole and they told me yes. When it arrived, the rack fits the 3" pole. The seller is trying to tell me to buy some piece of rubber at lowe's and that will get it to fit my 2.5". Anyone ever heard of this? Anything I can do to make this rack fit my pole besides insist on getting my $$ back??

They distinctly make the racks for 2.5" or 3" poles. You shouldn't have to "rig" the rack to work for your pole.

yea i know that. but rather than go through the hassle of trying to get the seller to take it back, maybe I could just make it fit the pole.

I would try to get some plastic inserts to fit. Although You will probably have to have some made for you. I would stay away from rubber, because it will get soft in heat, brittle in the cold. Maybe someone else can jump in with a similar experiance.
