Need help doing my system.I want to get away from opening valves by hand if posible. I know the simmer will not let water by when not in use but how often do you have to change impellers?and does it stop the water all the time even when impeller is a bit worn?(the pump will be fed by a scoop intake while boat is moving)I don,t need the pump to reverse. Or should i just go to electric valves (a bit pricy). Any help would be very great.

The simmer is self priming. I'm not sure what the benefit of having a scoop would be. Generally I think they use the scoops to help prime a pump if its not a "self priming" type pump. Implellers are like $6. I've read a number of posts that say it should be changed every other year. Personally if your not needing a reversable pump and would like to use a scoop I would go with a large airirater (sorry sp) pump. you can get them up to 2000 gph (simmer = 600gph). from what I understand they are not much more then the simmer but are non reversing. You would still need some sort of valve. Electric is sweet but I understand they can really restrict the water flow. Not sure how to advise you there.

I recommend that you go with aerator pumps (Walmart $20 for 750gph) and Toro sprinkler valves (Home Depot $15) The 3/4" sprinkler valve opens with 12 volts and passes water with very low flow. It must be a Toro valve though and not some other brand.

check my other post on this type of setup. I use a 1 inch rainbird valve, works great.
