I am looking at buying a new Coast Guard Approved life jacket and want to know what everyone is using and what they think of them. I am looking at the Jet Pilot Full Metal Jacket, the O'Neill The Law, and the Nevin SWAT vest. Currently I am using a Non-CGA vest and want a little more floatation without losing most of the mobility. Any input would be great. Thanks.

I have been ridng The Law all season. It is the best vest I have ever used. It is super non restrictive for a CGA vest. It has very large arm holes and it is super quality. I love mine.

I've got the new Nevin SWAT and I really like it, great float and quality, side entry and good padding for the falls while still retaining flexability. Understated graphics were another bonus. Awesome vest.

Gordon - is that the NON-CGA SWAT or the Approved one. A friend of mine had the approved one and it absorbed so much water it weighed like 10+ pounds after he took a set. It was HEAVY dude. I know the NON-CGA doesn't do that, but I don't like that it doesn't have a strap at the bottom so I wouldn't think it would stay down.

Anyone tried the Jet Pilot Full Metal Jacket?

Thane,

It's the 2005 CGA one, and at least on mine the drains on the bottom work real well. Any water that is absorbed pours out when you come out and stand up. Like most vests it does get a little heavier when wet but I didn't think it was excessive or any more than my friends JP cell block.

I see, the Nevin CGA and Non-CGA that I tried on were a couple years ago, so maybe they've improved. I really like my Jet-Pilot A-10, but I feel like if I actually did sack up and try something new and knocked myself out, then I wouldn't float.

Nice boat by the way.

Thanks for the recommendations. I would really like to hear from someone who uses the Full Metal Jacket before I purchase a new vest.

Thane - I am also using the Jet Pilot A-10 now and it's a great jacket for just riding around and doing the tricks that I am comfortable with, but now I would like a vest with a little more padding and floatation when I am learning new tricks.

I have the '04 Nevin SWAT CGA vest and I really like it. It is a little heavy but I really didn't notice it much while riding! My cousin has the '04 SWAT FLAK JACKET and it is non-CGA and it rides up on him all the time. It is nice b/c of it's "thin-ness" but besides that he doesn't like it all that much. But I know people with that JP FMJ and they like it. Good luck
