Looking at used boats and the marina said the previous owner didn't properly winterize it and had to replace the engine. Doesn't sound like any other maintenance was done to the boat. Should I be worried about having to fix anything else due to poor winterization? Is it not smart to buy a boat that had to have the engine replaced? Or is it just hell on earth keeping up with other maintenance issues like vibrations throughout the engine prop transmission etc? Obviously there's a concern if he didn't properly winterize it what else did he not care for...

What kind of boat? Accessories?

The v-drive has water in it & could freeze & cause havoc. Also the heater. Seems like if they replaced the engine, and have test drove it, those would pop up immediately if it were an issue.

Get the tranny/vdrive/shaft aligned if vibes are an issue. So you have 10 yr old hull and a brand new engine. Unless the boat is thrashed, sounds pretty straightfoward. forgetting to winterize is one thing, tearing it up from daily abuse is another. And it was done by the dealer, so you have some recourse if things start acting up. Sounds like they just forgot...

also, does it have the original Toyota engine? or did they go with a more typical marine engine? PCM/indmar. Just curious, it wouldn't really matter. The toyata engine is better on gas and a tad less noisy at idle...
