I need to put one of these on my trailer so it will fit in the garage..
What would you do? The bolt on version or weld on style, no welder at my house, so I would have to pay someone to weld it on, has anyone used a bolt on style?
I'd probably go for the professionally welded on option although given the amount of stress at that point. Either way I'd probably run a "jumper" safety chain or coiled cable from the existing safety chains/cables to a point past the swing away joint. This way if the joint fails your boat will still be relatively safe even though the trailer will take a beating. I remember a thread (maybe not on here) where the swing away hinge failed on a Tige's trailer and the boat passed the tow vehicle but came to a "safe" stop in the dirt to the side of the road. It could have gone so much worse.
