Stereo/ Ipod problem

Well Saturday got the boat all cleaned and waxed. Hooked it up to the truck for a early morning Sunday set. Saturday night it rained for about an hour. Ipod connecter is out in open. Radio not wet what so ever. Anyways so went out. Pluged Ipod in and worked for about 30 mins. Stereo and cd player still worked, but messed up my ipod. No power to it at all and is still like that. Well for some reason I thought it was just my ipod so we pluged in my buddys and same thing happend. It played for about thirty mins and then ipod stoped working. So my question is was the plug wet and got the ipod wet inside. Is the plug bad? Or is there something wrong with the stereo where the ipod connect plugs in? The connecter is the kind that charges also. Im scared to test another Ipod. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
