I know I should have towed the boat with my 4-runner, but my friend wanted to use his F650. We towed from Denver to Osage Beach, MO, for a quick trip to Lake of the Ozarks. I am not sure what the towing capacity on a little truck like this is. I hope we didn't damage it. Maybe next time he will wise up and use the toyota.Upload

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you were probably okay on the trip. Just make sure that you don't have anything, and I mean anything, on the boat that will be any extra weight other than the boat itself, or you will have problems with hitting the tow capacity limit... Be careful.

Thats stretching it.. i wouldnt push it if i were you. You could cause premature tire wear, or even worse- frame damage.

I need a friend with a tricked out 650.

Sweet setup!!!

That F-650 got better fuel mileage pulling that boat than you would have ever dreamed of getting in that Toyota, unless your friend was trying to impress you with his heavy foot. You should let him do this every time! Unless you were cramped in the tight interior...

Terra what do you do driving 4k miles a week?

I think we got pretty decent mileage, he is a laid back driver. I don't reckon he needs a heavy foot to impress...

I am with Ben on this one. Terra what do you do to drive 4k miles a week and does the DOT know you are driving that much....?
Old     (festivus)      Join Date: Jan 2006       09-27-2006, 6:36 AM Reply
We went about 600 miles before fueling, and we still had over 1/4 tank, so I am pretty sure we could have gone the 750+ miles w/o a stop. Of course, you need a catheter to do that, but one of those wide-mouth gatorade bottles works as well.

You were probably right at the weight limit for that mid size truck..

Nice looking combo.

I hot shot high end cars. Half of those miles I have someone with me, that helps out the old log book.

What exactly is that truck used for? (I know.., preposition) it looks commercial. I can see hauling bulldozers or something
Old     (festivus)      Join Date: Jan 2006       09-27-2006, 7:19 AM Reply
KJ- we stayed in Osage Beach at the Trendwest Resort. Went from mile marker 7 down to about 22, but mostly stayed in the state park area. We didn't see another person in the water the entire time. At lunch one day, (I think Dorsey's) they thought were crazy for getting in the water when it was so cold. My boat had the water temp between 72-78 the entire time.) If they only knew we ride in the low 60's in the spring and fall here in Denver. I'm not saying that I love cold water, but I'll take anything in the 70's.
Rich- what exactly is that truck used for?...pretty much hauling fine commodities. I respect my friend, the truck's owner, too much to post pics of the freight, but I don't think it's any stretch to say that the ladies we run with (our wives) are about as exotic as that rig.

Didn't international or something build a truck like that....has a huge price tag and looks like a semi with a bed. I'll see if I can find pics.

Edit: Here THEY are!

International makes the CXT, which is a bada$$ truck, also makes these (F-650s, 750s, so on). They're only a hand full of very minor cosmetic differences between my F-650 and my buddies CXT. Both have an International DT444E motor (better known as the 7.3 Powerstroke).

TerraFirma,
The CXT is a 4X4. Are the 650's 4X4 as well?
Old     (wakeboardin2k4)      Join Date: Sep 2006       09-27-2006, 8:35 PM Reply
Im gonna go with the ford being the more bada$s of the two rigs. The ford looks less like a semi, and more like a f350 on more roids than barry bonds. That is a sick set up. The website says that the limit for the 650 is 26000 lbs, You could tow 4 or 5 of those lake limos. INSANE
Old    jack43            09-27-2006, 9:11 PM Reply
Robb, mine is a 4x4, my buddies CXT is also but that's the way he ordered it. You don't have to get it in 4x4.
Eric, they 'limit' the weight upon sale to 26000 lbs to prevent the buyer from requiring a CDL to drive them.
Old     (kenv)      Join Date: May 2002       09-27-2006, 9:27 PM Reply
TerraFirma,

Your F650 has a 7.3??? I thought the F650's came with at least a CAT 300 or so as the engine of choice. Isn't that kind of big for a Powerstroke? I have seen 450's and 550's with 7.3's and 6.0's but not 650's. Oh well, you probably know it better than I.

Later,

Ken

They had 7.3 Powerstrokes in Ford F250 and F350s from about 1995-2002. I am not sure of the years but I have a buddy that has a '95 F250 and a 2002 F250 and both have the 7.3 Powerstroke.

1995-1998 F250-550 had 7.3 Powerstrokes.
In 1999 with the new body style, they intercooled them.
Mid 2003 introduced that junkbox 6.0

Festivus - we just home from LOTO. Man it was cold! We were the only Bu I saw on the lake all week. The LSV handled the big water fairly well, although we were coming back from the damn and could not get over 20 one time.

That would be perfect for the new boat that I am designing in CAD class. It is going to be made of solid concrete! No need for ballast! Really bad gas mileage, but SICK wake!

How about this one? Belongs to a guy named Mike Manetta...he lived in my home town of Santa Clarita, CA...not sure anymore...

From what I know, he did all the 4-linking himself (he's a welder/fabricator). Pretty ridiculous truck. Daily driver too!! I used to see him all the time at restaurants and cruising around.

How did he get in and how is it street legal if he was in a wreck he would run over and kill people in normal vehicles?

Mark - Haha, I know, huh? I've seen him mob it into your standard parking lot like it's a freakin' Honda.

Jon - He doesn't have steps or anything. Also, I think he has it registered as a commercial vehicle so there is no height restriction; so it would kill you just like a giant semi-truck would in an accident I guess. I could be wrong, but that's how it was explained to me years ago.

The difference between that one and a semi or one of these other f650s is that they have a bumper that sits close to the ground. I would think they would be more likely to push a car than run over it. I would think the monster truck would run over a honda like it was a speed bump.

Mikes truck is out fitted with a air locker for the four wheel drive, a lift to get his dirt bike in. The druck is street legal because of the weight, under 26,0000 gvw. It took him one year to build. It also has propane injection and is not dual wheels in the back. He had dual coil over shocks with resevors custom made. It has three t.v.s, a PS2, and the inside door panels and roof line are tweed with molded flames. It also has a caterpillar Diesel engine.
