Heres the deal 96 v drive boat 350 throtal body efi merc, the light for the v drive is on above 1200 rpm, replaced the sensor on the drive its self but it still comes on and when I give its some gas even with the light on as soon as I hit 2000 rpm the engine cuts out and will stall unless I pull back on the throtal. I the v drive tied into the ecm or what.
Walter V-Drives have a screen in the bottom for the oil pickup check and make sure clean, check hoses for blockage, check wiring to light and ground for possible short. If all that is good than some how your Oil pump went bad, #42a in the diagram.
If you have a leaky oil hose on the v-drive that can cause the light problem and it wont be visible because it will be sucking air in instead of dripping fluid out.
I still say its the engine though. You can rev up the engine in neutral and it doesn't stall out?
Thats right I can rev it up to 5000 rpm and its runs great but when I put it in gear it tries to get on plane but the its like the engine cuts out. Its very odd thats why I am wondering if the v drive some how is connected to the ecm and its shuting down the engine because the low oil presure light is on, thats what it seems like anyway. Any other thoughts???
