I visted Redline Watersports a couple years ago and Paul was showing me how they put clear protective tape along the bottom of their transoms to protect from surfing scuffs and scratches.

Back then I had a 197 and was chasing bouys. Never even tried surfing. Now, I have an X2 that is ruby red flake with a black band at base of transom. Black sure looks sharp, but it's hard to keep looking good - especially when everyone keeps dingin the transom with the surfboard.

Having just spent the better part of a morning wetsanding and polishing out these beauty marks, I'm looking for a source for some protective tape. Is anyone else out there doing this? If so - where did you source the tape? How was it applied? And are you happy with it?

Thanks!

How are they dinging the transom with the surfboard? I had a clear protective coating put on my boat. I will see if I can find pictures and who did it.

Sliding off the platform was how we learned initially back in April when the water was 52. When the boat is really loaded up, the water back there is ankle deep and it's hard for some folks to not keep banging the tip of board into the gelcoat above the transom saver. I've learned the deepwater since then, but not everyone else has transitioned. I'm gonna try to transition everyone over to the deep start, since it isn't hard, but I know that it will still be done occasionally. That issue aside, I still think it's a good thing for those times when the surfer bails and the board comes zooming at back of boat. That has happened a few times too. And of course, to protect against the folks that just can't seem to keep their boards behind the transom saver when putting them on.

I've always put Hydroturf all over my boats - the gunnels and the transom.

KeelShield makes a transom shield. It's a clear 3M film that protects the back of the boat... http://www.keelshield.com/transomshield.html

I got one for a friend, it's clear, just like the invisible shield I have on the front of the truck. You would hardly notice it once you put it on.
