Im looking to buy another truck. Preferably lifted. Looking for an 04-07 silverado 1500 with no more than 60,000 miles. NO regular cab, must be extended or 4 door...any finds or any trucks you know of would be helpful im looking for a chevy but will be open to any truck 04 or newer. price range is around 14,000-19,000. im located in tennessee and want to get something relatively close to here, but will be willing to travel a bit. Thanks guys!

Traveling, towing, and lifting a 1/2 GM truck aren't the best things to mix. I've owned several lifted/lowered trucks and tell you from experience, it's not a good idea. I'm not saying it's not safe, it's just that when you put the bigger tires on the truck, it throws the gearing off. The 5.3L GM motor barely has enough torque to turn the bigger wheels, and it really sucks when you've got a load to tow.
In that price range you can get a decent crew cab 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison combo. Of all the trucks I've had, that's the one I miss the most. Fuel economy was the same as the 1/2 ton stock, and when I towed, the mpg was the same. With the 1/2 ton it was less than 10mpg....

My F250 does 16.5 average. 18-20 on flat highway. 14-15 in town. Around 12-14 towing our heavy a$$ x-star loaded with lead. I'd say those numbers are right on. Where they shine is in the mountains. It get's almost double what my Chevy Tahoe got with a 6" lift and 33's. That 5.3 was a dog. It got the job done, and was bomb proof, but a dog when towing.
I have a hard time believing a Dodge getting 23. Maybe on a slight downhill with a tailwind. Maybe. Ha, ha, ha.
For reference.... My F250 has 34" tires, no lift, but has a programmer running a pretty mild tune. It rips just the way it is. Great truck.

My dads 03 dodge cummins gets consistently 20mpg. And on a straight highway trip doing 65 it gets 22-25. This is with a six speed i would imagine the auto would get worse mileage.

I just want to give my personal experience with my 2001 silverado 1/2 ton (which i believe is going to be the same running gear as a 2004). It was a great truck!! until you put a trailer behind it. a list of things i towed with it; 8x12 snowmobile trailer with 2 sleds, small trailer with 2 motocross bikes, and a 24 foot haulmark enclosed trailer. Even with the lightest load i listed here, you would expect the truck to behave as if there was nothing behind it. that was not the case at all. it was quite annoying how my fuel mileage got sacrificed so much with less than a 1,000 pound load. I will say that particular truck had 20" rims, but the tires were probably only a inche taller that the stock ones. I wouldnt think that would make a drastic difference. But it defiantly seemed the gearing on these trucks is quite high.

Chase sent you an email
Bryce you realize these trucks come with different gear ratios? My bro-in-law has a 00 1/2 ton with very low gearing
As for mine not sure where its at but I have no trouble pulling my Mastercraft... but I will say its no Duramax, but I also dont need 1

I agree with John. If you buy a used, lifted 1500 to tow with, make sure you set aside money for gas and transmissions. I would go 3/4 ton for anything lifted that you want to tow with.

Thats not always true. I had a GMC 2002 lifted with 33"s. I pulled a 25' toy box fine. and got about 8-10 mpg. I did have it geared low 4.56. The trans i had a bigger cooler on it, and when I sold it with 140,000 miles on it. She still had the same trans. that i bought new with. the truck got 12 to 15 on the freeway

josh.. yes i am well aware there is gearing options. i was just giving some insight from my personal experiences to the dude looking to buy. I'm sure the truck i owned most likely had a higher gearing set up.

Looks like a nice truck, hope it tows well. I had an 08 silverado lifted 4" with 20 x 35" tires. It was a TOTAL DOG so I switched the gearing out to 4.56 and tuned it. It was still a total dog and would constantly shift in and out of OD on the highway so I sold it a bought an 08 F250..... can pull houses off their foundation, pass on the highway without even coming out of overdrive...man I will never tow with anything but a diesel again as long as I can afford it!

I just took a 500 mile road trip towing my 07 24SSV to the dealer with my wife's 05 Denali.
For sale or trade: 04 Caddy CTS-V, 405hp 6-spd <-- so I can buy another diesel truck to tow my boat with.
