I'm curious as to how the snowboarding magazine market compares to the wakeboarding magazine market. For those who know, can you answer these questions...

- How many major snowboarding magazines are there?
- For each mag, what would you consider to be their focus? For example, are they a lifestyle magazine aimed at a young crowd or more of a family magazine aimed at an older crowd?
- How does the snowboarding magazine market compare to the wakeboarding magazine market?
- Are there any decent snowboarding websites that would be similar to WakeWorld?

there are like 4 major mags. they are way bigger than wakeboarding because the market is way bigger. They are 100% youth mags. Just like a wake mag. go to http://www.transworldsnowboarding.com/snow/
and get a free mag. also there are like 10 sites like wakeworld for snowboarding.

Which snowboarding site do you recommend for a Wakeworld like feel Andy? I'm not overly impressed with snowboard.com.

the snowboarding sites suck. The last snowboard site I checked out was more of a dating forum for teens. It was weak.

I haven't found a snowboard magazine that I could stand to read.
Most of them are 80% advertisements and the articles I've tried to read seemed as though they were written by 12 year-olds for 12 year-olds. I can't think of one useful article I have read from a snowboard mag.
I subscribe to Powder and Ski magazines because, even though they are ski mags, they have intelligent articles about places to ride and provide alot of useful information that is not ski specific. Sometimes they even throw in an article that caters to snowboarders. I have noticed over the last couple years that they are starting to write articles that apply to boarders more often.

This is of course, all based on my opinion which I have derived from my experiences.

I wouldn't go as far to say that they are for 12 year olds, but they definately aren't for people over 30. They tend to focus on selling the image of being hardcore, which in a sense is good but leads to a lot of kids trying way to hard to be hardcore and original but never really works out.

Transworld Snowboarding and Snowboarder are the big two, and aimed at the 12-17 year old. Unless you're in that demographic, they are pretty useless, except for the advertisements.

Snowboard Canada is a better version of TWS and Snowboarder. Still aimed at a younger crowd but not as brain damaged as TWS.

There are a couple new magazines that are aimed at an older, more thoughtful crowd, The Snowboard Journal and Frequency. They are quite good and have fantastic photos (ala Powder). I also read Ski, Skiing and Powder, which though aimed at skiers, actually have some useful info. I also read Couloir and Backcountry. Again, not really snowboarding mags but they have some useful info and great pics.

Some of the Euro snowboard magazines are good. Many of the Barnes and Nobles carry them.

Frequency would definitely be the mag for the dude that likes to read. I heard about that mag from a friend a couple of years ago and he was really psyched on it. But it does cost more than the average mag (I thought it was something like 10-14 dollars per issue).

There's also a new mag that came out this year called "snowboard." It is smaller than transworld, but I believe they have fewer advertisements. I never counted the ad to "true content" ratio, but the mag was decent, for sure.

Also worthy of note are the indy zines for snowboarding. Since I'm a huge peter line fan, I bought this limited edition zine called "truth" (because it had some of his sketches in it) and it is like a high quality, artistic little snowboarding book (it's quite edgy as well). But it's sick that there are do it yourself-ers (haha) that can make a zine look that good. truthzine.com
