I read somewhere that this board was designed for folks in Japan, where physical space is at a premium. It was designed to fit in elevators, buses, the trunk of a small Japanese car and hence the name. It was also designed to have the same VOLUME as a 6'2" short board and so it is thick and wide:
Length: 5'0"
Tail Width: 16.1"
Center Width: 20.125"
Nose Width: 17.0"
Thickness: 2.5"
I've built shapes at similar dimensions and they wind up being corky for anyone under 260+ pounds. They scoot along really well, but sinking a rail to turn it feels like you're trying to force a battleship off course with your feet.
IMO, not a useful shape for our purposes behind the boat.
