Is anyone from Cali?

I need your help. I just sold a boat to a guy in Cali and he is concerned about registering the boat. You see, here in Mississippi, we do not have to have a title to register a boat. He wants me to title it in my name here in MS. This could take six to eight weeks. Does this guy need me to title it or will a valid bill of sale be enough? Can he apply for a California title with the noterized bill of sale. Please give me some info.

Your best answer would be to contact dmv and get the proper procedures from them.. www.dmv.ca.gov

Tell him to buy my boat and all will be taken care of.

He should have no problem registering the boat and getting a title for it. As long as he has a bill of sale and you can provide some sort of proof of ownership.
I just got done doing this with a care from out of state that had no title.

I bought a boat once from NJ and brought it to Utah. Had a bill of sale but no title. DMV had a form to fill out, I had to take it down to the police station for them to check out the VIN or what ever boats have. They check their system to see if it's been reported stolen, I paid like $5. Done.

Titling in Ca will be a pain in the a-- without a title. They will require inspections,vin verifications of both boat & trailer etc....
