i've come to the conclusion that even though i absolutely love my marius, i prefer the pop off a board w/ a 3-stage rocker. i rode my buddy's substance today. loved the pop, hated the landings. so, i'm looking for a board w/ 3-stage rocker w/ the landings of the marius.

anyone?

another thing, i don't want a grippy board. but, i can't ride a board w/o a center fin taken out. i put smaller fins on my marius and i love it. so, something similar, please.

thanks!

Have you ridden the Watson yet? Its like the substance but softer on the landings IMO

Hey Joe~
I'm looking for the same things in a board...when you figure it out let me know!

So far, the HL Era has fit the best for me, as far as being loose, good pop and pretty soft landings, but Im going to try the LF Jett(Witness) and Watson this week...I'll let you know how they ride if you want.

I would also try the Shane. It is wider then the Watson , pops great and lands supper soft.

Joe as astute as you are in the scene and the connections you have i would have thought you have ridden everyboard available :-)

I really love my absolute platinum but its a tad slow especially in the chop..its faster without center fins but still a bit slow..I am going to try the Natural as well ,it really seems to have all the things im looking for..

I did take one set on a new 07 Transcend platty 138 and it was a pretty sweet ride but it wasnt with my bindings or stance so im going to need to try it again before i give a real evaluation. However it had a nice blend of three satge pop but also speed and carry out in the flats with really soft landings..

good luck and keep us updated

I second Evan------Transcend is the only way to go. Super soft on the landings and all the love of lots of pop. (I just wish I could ride it like Evan)

Joe - have you ever ridden the 3DS? I get just as much pop from this, as I did my premier, but the landings are much, much softer. pretty fast board as well. I ride mine with the .8 a wings. (or is it .7 P wings? I don't know)

You are already getting crazy pop on the Marius!

I wouldn't worry about another board if I was you.

I'm with MJW, ride the Absolute. Even more pop and much nicer landings than a Substance. Its certainly not as smooth as the Marius but pretty good in my book. Look for a board with a nice center spine, the Transcend & Faction boards have the spine extended from tip to tail. Also look at the Shane, its got a nice concave & if you can get past the name I've heard its a great shape.

I rode the Marius all last year and like it alot but is too slow for me. I then bought a Watson and loved it more, especially for spinning. Then my first few sets this year I took on an 03 Absolute that I was gonna use as my community board for the boat. Holy crap! I am ripping it on the older Absolute! I think it all boils down to rider style. The landings are definately a little harder on the older 03 board but it is not that bad at all. Does anyone know what or if that shape board is being marketed as today?

cliff, i'll put natural on my list of boards to try.

andrea, i'll definitely help ya out!

patrick, the shane is on my list.

bill, i didn't ride much last year. this year, i've been out 3 times! i've been suuuuuuper busy! i do want to try the transcend though.

thomas, i haven't had any luck w/ hyperlite (not to say they're bad).

mjw, absolute lands harder than marius.

ed, thanks for the props man!

damien, no.

Joe, I hope Squid doesn't see this thread. He will not let you live it down.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       03-12-2007, 11:26 PM Reply
why? i don't buy new boards every 2-4 weeks like squid does. i don't blame my bad days on my board. if squid has a bad day of riding, he starts overanalyzing his techniques, then starts questioning his board. then BOOM! new board. also, i've been on the marius for at least a year now. so squid's got nuthin'!!!

All I gotta say is Im really disapointed in Hyperlite's 06 Murray board

first thought watson, only thing is that it's a little grippier than the substance. The shane lands pretty soft but with the fins it comes with is much to grippy imo. The ps3 may also be worth trying.

haha, Joe I learned my lesson on boards. I snow boarded alot this winter one day my friend switched out his board for mine I was lost on his board. So now I know every time I switched boards I was going backwards instead of forwards.

Good luck finding that magic board.

Gene - I think the 06 Pure is the same board as an 03 Absolute. You can probably still pick one of those up.

Yea thanks, I just found out. But is it the same shape all the way up from what year?
