doing old tricks when learning new

Does anyone have a problem of when trying to learn a new trick they automatically do something they know how to do? for instance when I try s-bends all I do is a laid out front flip. I recently learned switch roll to blinds, but I can't do a half cab roll. When I try I automatically do a roll to blind...it's annoying? anyone else do this?

When this happens to me I go back to the tramp and work on it there or use the wakeskate so i can get the trick minus the landing
