I have landed both of these tricks and am really consistant on roll to reverts but I have a problem with backroll. On my backrolls I throw them exactly like my roll to reverts but I hold on with both hands for the whole rotation. What happens to me is my body and board want to complete the revert but I yank on the handle and bring it to my left hip to stop the rotation and keep the flip a backroll. Sometimes I don't bring it back all the way and bail. In one instance I slightly tore my MCL in my knee. So I am looking for a way to avoid having to stop the roll to revert rotation and just do a smooth backroll. Any suggestions? Am I throwing it too hard or not the correct way? Would appreciate the feedback

i would try pulling the rope in close to my lead armpit throughout the rotation, this may or may not help you stay regular... but if holding closer to oyur lead doesnt help i would try dropping my back hand 3/4 of the way through my rotation. Phill

My experience is that it's almost all in the take-off. For a regular roll, my cut *at the wake* is slightly less than for a roll to revert and I stand up more as I leave the wake.

Handle position is the remainder of the difference, but is less critical than the slight difference in body position as I leave the wake. I use the same handle position for both tricks, but on the r to r, I let go with my lead hand about 3/4 of the way through the rotation and move my back hand (with handle) to the back of my trailing thigh.

I agree with John on the takeoff part, except I think that handle position is at least half of the trick as well. When you do the backroll concentrate on (1) the approach, and (2) when you leave the wake the handle should be in at your lead hip, and you should try to keep it there during the whole rotation, because when you land you want the handle exactly at the lead hip

Pretty much agree with all above, but I'd say that if you want to ALWAYS land a strait backroll just let go with your back hand or go for a tail grab on your roll and you will end up with the nose of the board well in front of you.

Later,
Tony
