Boat dies....doesnt sputter...just dies...

We we riding the other night and the engine just died...didn't sputter or sound like it was missing; just quit like i turned it off. it wouldn't start for about 5 minutes then it started back up and died minutes later. after it cooled down (20min) it started and ran long enough to get us back through the bay. when we loaded it up and tried flushing the engine out...it was the same thing. Any suggestions or similar fixes?

there'sone more thing also.....when we're going through choppy water it seems like it cutitng out when the boat hits? throttle stays the same but you can hear and feel the difference??? i'm lost with this. It's a GT-40 with 37hrs on it. thanks

Check the driver's lanyard safety switch. Mine was defective and had to the replaced

Quetion when it died and you went to re-start it back up again could you hear the fuel pump turn on? Ill explain. When you turn you boat to the start position but dont start it you should hear the fuel pump cycle.

With switch - was it intermittent like that? when i try to get a repeat....i can'•••••• only when im out in the middle of the water! Thepump was working...can an ignition mod or coil cause this?

My switch problem started has while we anchored and tried to restart. The engine just turned with no start like it was out of fuel. While I was resetting the anchor (we were drifting) on the bow my son was fooling with the ignition and safety switch. The boat started and then it quickly died. Come to find out (after some detective work) when the lanyard was slightly turned or jostled the plunger was not depressed enough to disengage the emergency shutoff. I fashioned a shim from some cardboard and stuck it in between the plunger and breakaway emergency part. Boat started right up and we were fine until I got to the dealer for a new switch setup several weeks later.
The dealer stated it was a common problem

I'm thinking the rough water might have been enough to create the problem with yours. Hope it's as simple for you.
