RTP or MCX on an X1

Is the MCX worth the 2K upgrade when considering performance, fuel, and resale on a new X1?

holy crap!!!! i think bu only charges 650 for the monsoon upgrade and i'm pretty sure they are quite similar.

The MONSOON and the RTP are simliar in design. Just look at the PLENTUM's and how the air is inducted into the motor. The MCX upgrade is a great option especially if you are planning on other watersports activities besides wakeboarding. The MCX comes standard with the NEW Tuned exhaust molds. 1 piece tuned that weigh about 60 lbs less than the steel ones. I Think the upgraded Monsoon has the same. The MCX offers a different upgraded more controlled fuel deilvery than the RTP. plus true throttle by wire. One other thing to look at is the transmission that MC uses. Hurth transmissions are next to bullet proof. Rated for 450 HP. I do not know what BU uses. I think a Borg Warner bolted to a WALTER V-Drive. You need to check on that.. The MCX is a $2350 Retail upgrade...figure you should be able to get it for $1600-$1800. MasterCraft was offering a FREE MCX upgrade as a boat show special. The X-1 as a price point boat is $39995 + Shipping and prep. Boat motor single axle trailer, double ballast and tower. Stereos biminis board racks and covers are extra. Basically the same with the BU V-ride and I ride. Single ballast is standard trailer w/ NO BRAKES. The MC trailer is pretty well equipped. Prop guard w/ rollers, fiberglass fenders, disk brakes etc. Look carefully.

The resale will be AWESOME considering last years X-2 with more bling was selling for about 4-5K more. Look what has happened to the 98 Sportstar. Retail on that package in 1998 was $19995. Those PS 190 hulls that the PS 190, X-5, PS 195 and Sportstar where all based on is still drawing $14-16K. (The 98's) That is the last time MC entered the price point arena and it payed out great for those owners. Good luck in your decision ! Think it through hard and research your #s.

I have a buddy that is ordering a new x-1. He has gone back and forth with the MCX. Seems like everyone (dealers) he has spoken to say the MCX is overkill. He was going to use the MCX upgrade for other options. Only time will tell if that was the correct decision.

ummmm, tjk i was referring to the mcx v. monsoon. and i'm pretty sure those two are ver much the same.

i believe a better comparison would be between the rtp and lcr.

save the wear and tear on your keyboard, madchild. tjk will never admit anything associated with malibu is an "equal" comparison to mastercraft. he's got every single trivial bit of information memorized that paints malibu in a negative light and makes his mc look that much better. trying to convince him that another boat, especially malibu, is even in the same league as mc--and might actually do one or two things better--is like trying to convince bill o'reilly that him yelling louder than everyone else doesn't necessarily make him right. i'm not even sure he'd willingly acknowledge the hammerhead has more foot pounds of torque than the rcp

i kid you not, EVERY SINGLE ONE of his posts are meant to discredit other companies and/or shamelessly promote mastercraft. even on threads that don't even mention mc, he chimes in to offer his "facts" and let you know where you'd be better off spending your money. so basically, he sits around waiting for threads titled "x-1 or v-ride?" or "is moomba a good choice?" or "does TAPS work" or something to that effect and gives us all the priviledge of being enlightened on the horrible truths that every boat company except mc has been hiding from us. thus assuming that we are all too stupid to recognize the obvious superiority of mastercraft boats when comparing, testing, and contrasting.

tjk, dude, you're 40 years old...may i suggest growing up and getting a life? mc make a fantastic boat, and surely does not require your kind of "help". in fact, i garuntee you've pushed more people away from mastercraft than you have towards them, and i'd be shocked if mastercraft dealers and representatives haven't privately contacted you in the past to let you know you're giving their company a bad name. you're just too stubborn to realize it.

attila, if you're not planning on having big crews and a lot of extra ballast most of the time you go out, i'd recommend the 310. why pay $2k more and then have to pay more on gas if you don't really need the added power?

MC right now is offering either a free MCX upgrade or a $2000 post-purchase coupon good for service or whatever else... So I am thinking about going for it. I guess I don't really need the extra power, just considering pimp factor along with gas consumption and resale value.

if it's free, the upgrade would be hard to pass up. it certainly would help resale. so, unless you need new gear or something and can use that $2000 in their pro shop, the mcx is probably the way to go

Go with the MCX, especially if you plan on putting more weight in the boat than the std. sys. I have a MCX in my 05 X-2, and I like it. It is worth the $2K upgrade, and you should be able to get it back at resale as long as you take care of the boat. If you can get it for FREE, it should be a no-brainer.

brent, i agree, usually i would never condone hijacking a thread, especially to insult someone, but tjk is a special case. honestly, read his post history and tell me if you still think his opinion on anything should be valued. the guy is a complete moron, and everything he says should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

anyway, back on topic. for people who have experience with both engines, what is the difference in gas comsumption between the two? i have a friend who's contemplating an x-1 as well. how much weight over stock does it take before the rtp begins to struggle and chug gas?

Another vote for the MCX, it includes (perfect pass) throttle by wire which is a must. PP retails for like 1600, the MCX upgrade is 2K. So basically for 400 you get both, a upgraded motor & PP.

Aaron, I was told that for 06 the RTP includes throttle by wire as well. They are both 5.7L correct?

My apologies, I know for a 05 it's not included, but if PP or throttle by wire is included & I didn't run alot of weight I may pass. Can you testdrive both boats, one with the RTP & with the MCX loaded down, that should give you a true idea.

I've been in both. For factory ballast, either motor is fine. For heavily weighted, the MCX helps out of the hole and with fuel consumption - the engine labors less coming to speed.

Both engines are built off the same Indmar GM 5.7L vortec block.
