Guys, need help. Four weeks ago after a long 2 hour blast with a ten minute break in the middle the front edge of my ankle was bruised as f*&k to the point where I couldn't put the board back on my feet. Someone suggested to me that my bindings must have got stiff over winter and so been crushing my ankle.Someone else suggested I've bruised my tendon ... the point is I went on the board yesterday (with some new bindings, much better and more comfortable) for 10 mins and today it's hurting again but I can't see any actual bruising.

Anyone experienced this themselves, what's the cure/remedy and no don't tell me to go see a Doc as my old man's a GP and he ain't got a clue what it is other than I've bruised the soft tissue ... there must be something I can do ...

Any help appreciated
Ta
Matt

The same thing happens to me at the beginning of each season. You have bruised the soft tissue, as you said. Just let it heal a little and then get back at it. It will go away once you build up strength in the tissue. Hurts like hell, doesn't it?

I fell up short on a scarecrow last year and my foot slipped out of the front of my bindings. i thought it was just a sprain and so did the first dr. i went to. To make a very long story short...I ended up having to go to a specialist and i had an mri done on it. I have an "adema" or something like that in between my leg bone and foot bone (which creates the ankle). He told me that it would be like 12 months for it to heal. It still hurts now but not as much, it gets very stiff though. What happen was when I fell up short on the scarecrow, the dr. said that my "leg bone" slammed down on top of my foot bone and bruised the hell out of it. I would have been better off breaking it he said. My pain is very internal, underneath the bone that sticks out on my ankle. Anyways, be careful man and you may want to get it checked if it keeps up

Jim, Same thing happened to me, foot out the front of the binding. Except I was just going for big air. The FISRT time was late Sept 2001. I reinjured again early this season. The pain has NEVER gone away. It's tolerable, but hurts me everyday. It probably isn't helping that I never stopped boarding, running and mtn biking. Oh well, good luck in you recovery.

Cheers guys

Dave

It first happened to me near the beginning of the season like you. I think it was because it was my first single session that lasted longer than 15 minutes. Two hours with the board on your feet early on has done the damage.

How long did it take you to recover and did you do anything with it other than rest?

Cheers
Matt

Yup, me too. I feel your pain.
Happens to me every year and so far I've done nothing but live with the pain and on days when it's perticularly painful I don't go as big or I just play on the wakesurfer. The pain never really goes away and I was also playing soccer earlier this year which really aggravates it (I've put that on hold for now -priorities). I'm going to have a specialist check it out after the season and see if there's anything I can do over the winter to prepare for next year. ...and I need to check on my broken thumb and finger that haven't set right from febuary and still hurt. Ouch, I'm getting old.
Anyway hang in there and if you can do it the best advice I can give is to rest it.

Good luck,
-d
