Here's my problem. I am a freak about keeping my bu clean and new (even though it's a 2000). The entire boat looks great except for the rear. Ever year I add color restore to it and wax the shi% out of it but in a month it's looking bad and my hands can't take putting color restore on the boat all the time. Does anyone have any suggestions.

keep it covered as much as you possibly can.

Use a variable speed buffer and buff it. Then use a orbital buffer and wax it. Much easier on the hands.

Buffing will only keep it shiny for a little while. I have heard of people wet sanding and then buffing. That seems to hold the shine in a little longer.

Unless you have scratches you should not need to wet sand it.

I have used a waxer with very fine cut compound to do a small area. If you are doing the whole boat you need to buy a VERIABLE speed buffer.

I use a Atd veriable speed buffer. It can be bought at a auto motive paint store.

1. 3m marine super duty compound

2. ez1 high gloss clen cut

3. perfect-it 2 foam polishing pad glaze

4. 3m marine wax

1-3 with variable speed buffer.
4 with orbital buffer.

using a rotary buffer as described above will take off the outer (faded) layer of the gelcoat. When you get to the next layer, you can use a polish and bring back the shine. That's what I did and it wasn't a temporary fix.

not much you can really do

my friend had a 96 Red Malibu. I say had because the Red is now faded and it's a pink Malibu now. After about 2002 the Malibu gelcoat got considerably better, before that you're going to have some fading issues for sure. Keep it covered as much as possible and put a UV protectant on it as well. Wax works, however 303 is a bit better for the UV rays. Only other thing you can do is go with a new Gelcoat, that's very expensive though.
