It isn't hard to drill the holes, you just use a regular electric drill with the specified bit(I don't know the size, it says in the packet). Drilling the holes for the D-rings has to be in the gel coat, so if it is a valuable boat, I've heard to drill in reverse. We didn't because, well, our boat is REALLY old, and really couldn't care less if the gel coat were cracked. To install, it took maybe 40 minutes. To adjust properly to our boat, maybe a half an hour.
