I need to replace the crankshaft pulley on my 3.0 mercruiser engine. The only problem is access to that pulley is limited by the front engine mount. What would be the best way to get to the pulley in order to remove it ?

You'll have to figure out a way to support the engine so you can remove the mount and get to the pully.

I had that engine in a previous boat. i used the jack out of my car with a 2x4 and jacked it up enough to hold the pressure then removed the motor mounts. while your at it you might as well replace the alternator belt.

Did you place the jack underneath the oil pan?

You're not going to want to jack any where off the hull, you could crack it. Figure out a way to support the engine from overhead: A-frame, support beam in the garage, an engine hoist, fork lift, something you can chain to and pick the engine up just small amount.

Yes, i put the 2x4 on top of the jack and gently jack it up until you feel pressure.

I respect what sparky is saying, but i did this a dozen times with my old boat. you will notice with the way that engine is set up that this is also required when you need to change out the belt.
