my friend was the same, he was still trying to dial in his wake tho. he was riding around 17 or 18. so i told him to hit it around 21 and the improvement was awesome. thw wake just became a lot harder and gave it more of a lip.

Yeah, 15mph is too slow. Tell your friend to man up, my 6 year old son goes 20-21mph...

You need to go at least 21mph behind anything in order to get even a decent ollie without having to cut out first for speed.

Yeah 15MPH is way too slow for most, but if he has a clean wake, Jared you did say it was an 'awesome wake', who cares how fast he goes? There is no correct speed. Most people will start to go faster with time as they develop more control and like it has been posted, 15MPH on his speedo may be more like 18 or 20 in real life. To answer your original question, more speed can generally clean up a frothy wake, narrow the wake, make the wake firmer, and give the rider more speed with the same cut to the wake, and makes the water harder which is good for ollies and bad for crashes.

The right speed will depend on the boat and weight distribution. Gradually speed up in 1/2 mph increments until the wake is crisp. Don't listen to those that say ride at this speed or that we will vary our speed based on what we have in the boat. Rope length will also play a factor.

I find that it is actually easier to cut and gather up sketchy landings when I ride faster. I prefer 20-22 mph GPS.

Someone explain this to me. My friend has a 2006 centurion and the only way to get a clean wake at 75' is between 32 and 33 mph. He is running no ballast up front. All in the back. Would this have something to do with it?

thats fast! but i think some of the weight might have to be distributed more evenly?....idk though

Too fast for me anyway. This is my first season wakeboarding and im no expert. I still have an I/O and we ride 21 mph at 60' with 1000 ballast and 4-5 that seems to give us a really good hard wake. Some of the guys do inverts behind it too. I cant even do a 180 yet but its coming

chris- sounds like your still stuck in the water skier world. "80 off @ 22.5 on perfect pass." at 80 feet off you would be at negative 5 feet. hopefully you mean 80'

WOW, how could you do anything at 15 mph? I board at 28-30ish and that seems right on for the wake my boat throws out (which is a big one). But w/e, I guess it really is just personal preference and when it comes down to it, its all 'bout havin fun anyway.

At the ski school I work at I don't think we've ever gone that slow except maybe a 6 year old girls first time riding.... but after she's comfy its up to 18 or so.... just lie to him when he goes, if he says slower just mouth it to his dad but don't say anything, its all mental

chris you have my dream boat with what sounds like a dream wake... i ride behind an 07 supra 24 ssv gravity games sometimes... and it's nice but we dont even ride at 80 ft and 22.5 mph... so that wake has gotta be killer...

i ride at 22-24, but i don't have a wakeboat so 24 makes a thinner, more clearable wake... 22 you have to haul as s to clear the wake

Trevor, weight up front will help clean it up. To mush weight in the back and it makes the wake rampy which creates white wash.

This weekend I was skating at 52mph behind a jetski just to see if I could... 23mph for boarding and 20mph for skating.
