Now I know this is probably a pretty stupid question but I will ask it anyway. I'm trying to get a better amp so I can have more power to my evids but I'm on a little bit of a budget. A friend of mine had an older sony amp that he had sitting in his garage that I thought I might use. It's model number XM-DS1300P5. It only has a lpf, low boost knob, and gain knob for adjustments. My question is; is this type of amp only for a sub, I hooked it up to the Evids and they sounded like crap. No highs or mids only bass(adjusted everything and not much change). Like a I said probably a stupid question. Just looking for an answer. Thanks.

Sounds like you answered your own question. You tried it with the LPF off right? That should let the highs flow through. Might be the reason it is sitting in his garage.

it doesn't really have an on off for the lpf just a knob to turn. It has a subsonic on off but that's for really low freq. i think.
