Nice shots Rich, I've tried to shoot ducks in flight, not easy.

Rich the birds in flight are amazing! I found this guy kicking it right next to the road at Moss Landing on Saturday!

Nice Walt. Pat those snowboard shots are sick. Nick love the moon shot. Rich, birds in flight, very cool, and they are so sharp. Nice shot David. That's a hawk right? I finally got around to working around some of my shots from last year:

Thanks J Jakober. I believe it is a Red Tail Hawk, at least according to my 8 year old daughter. I'm not much of a bird guy, but liked how the pic turned out. I didn't set out to shoot birds that day, kinda just happened. Spent several hours driving down, then back up the coast looking for a decent spot to surf. I am just getting back into photography, haven't had anything but a point in shoot since the early 90's. I've enjoyed checking the photos posted here for years, lots of talent on WW. I also shot this guy on 17 mile drive the same day.

Awesome picture, brutal combo. I hear getting electrocuted sucks. Mind if I use it as a background? (Message edited by benjaminp on February 04, 2009)

Caught this guy sitting on my dock pole this afternoon. Normally they are really hard to get very close to. That's the full frame, no crop.

Stayed at a friend's vineyard up in Auburn, CA last weekend. This was the last shot I was able to take before my batteries crapped out.

Sparky - when shooting a white bird under expose 1/3rd to 2/3rds stop, you won't blow out the head/chest and lose the feather detail. Other then that those are both nice and sharp! Scott - how long was that exposure?

Alan- If I had to guess, those are probably planes flying into/out of a Tahoe/Reno area airport. Rich- 1500sec, f11, iso100.

Thanks for the tip Rich. That makes total sense because that was late afternoon sun hitting right on the bird's chest.

Yep, it wasn't slowing him down yet though. The river right in front of my house is pretty heavily fished, I could go into the used lure business with all the ones I find wrapped around various points of my dock! We always have to watch out for lures and hooks when we're down on the dock or swimming.

Do you have a link to a site showing the times and routes. That would be cool to see. I thought something like that went through Aptos last year and whatever it was the route was less then a mile from my house.

Resizing this pic made it not near as cool. THis was shot about 1/2" from the water using a Tokina 11X16mm lens.

My first attempt at B&W since going digital. Shot RAW/ then applied Monochome picture style in Canons DPP/ then applied sepia filter in CS2.
