New Canon Digital Rebel XT

Canon just announced an upgraded Digital Rebel camera - looks like it'll have some nice improvements over the Rebel when it comes to shooting wakeboarding.

Major features are 8mp, 3fps, instant on, AI Servo focus mode (great for tracking a moving subject such as shooting a wakeboarder from a chase boat), smaller and lighter, black body standard, priced the same as the Digital Rebel.

Bill, Can't you get the AI Servo focus mode on the old Rebel with the hack firm ware?

By the way thanks for your input on the Canon lens ! I went with the 70-200 f/4 and love it. I've only taken a few wakeboarding shots with it so far but I'm really looking forward to using it more.

3 fps?? What was the original Rebel?

Walt, yes many of the features of the upgraded camera are available via the hack. I'm glad you like the lens and can't wait to see some pics.

Rich, the original was 2.5fps - not exactly a huge upgrade but combined with the larger buffer it's nice. Not enough for good sequences shots though, for that you need at least the the 5fps found on the 20D (as you already know).

I'd still recommend the 20D over the Rebel, but for the price it looks to be a VERY nice camera and I'll be surprised if Nikon doesn't have to lower the price on the D70 to compete.
