Get the newest one with the 5.3 liter V-8 (H3 Alpha). Good power for towing. The basic one only has a 5-cylinder engine with no power.

A friend was towing an X-1 with the 5 cylinder and it was just not enough umph. Look at the v-8 or you will have a hell of a time.

I talked to a guy a few months ago who has one, and he said it is a piece of crap. Been in for several recalls, and has had MANY trips in for repairs. He said he has had over 20 different problems with it. Just his opinion.

No idea on towing capabilities. Many other options out there that have been around a few years and probably have better reliability.

And they are hideous and the polar opposite of a cool tow vehicle. IMHO

I valet and drive these things all the time, i would not buy this vehicle, it is ugly, nothing luxurious about it, tons of blinds spots. There are a lot of vehicles out there that you should consider instead of this one...

I have a Trailblazer which has an inline 6 which is essentially the same engine as the inline 5 of the H3 with the exception of one less cylinder. I can't imagine that the H3 would have enough power for towing unless it was geared properly. Braking could be an issue too unless your trailer has good brakes.

Rented one for a few days. Visibility sucks. Tight quarters inside, feels like you're locked in a box. The 'nerf bars' from the factory are in a crappy place and they are just in your way when getting in and out. The flat windshield is a bug magnet that you have to wash twice a day.

We were on a recon trip in so-cal desert areas looking for solar sites, and it did a good job in the sand and ruts. Seems like an appropriate vehicle if you need that kind of utility, but probably not the ride and experience that you're looking for in a daily driver.Upload

I also rented one snowboarding this year. Same thing tons of blind spots, poor gas mileage with the 5 cylinder, biggest complaint was the windshield was constantly dirty. I bet I had to squirt the washer fluid every 1-2 minutes or more often and thats not exaggerating at all. It was fun to drive for the weekend but I would never own one.
