My buddy just bought a brand new 21v, we have the upgraded balast in the thing.. I think it is 1100 up front and 400 on each side. we usually ride around 22-23 mph with the plate at 25%. About as far back as we can go is around 65ft. I was just wondering if anyone has it setup where they can ride any further back, and if so, what is your settings.. thanks

I ride at 70-75' total depending on the day. That includes the 5' for the handle. I have the 1100# sack up front, with a 650# sac on each side of the engine probably filled to about 450#. Wakeplate is about 1/2 to 3/4 up. I will also throw an extra 350# sac up in the bow once in a while. I find that this setup is good for riding at 21-22 mph. If you want to ride at 80'+ then try speeding up to 24-25 mph with the same setup.

(edit for spelling)

extend the rope/handle until the board rides up the wake right before the wake starts to crumble. Different lengths at different weights/conditions/speed. There isnt 1 set setting regardless if its the same boat and weight on it.

We ride a 01 air with 500 pounds of regular ballast and about 1300 pounds in fat sacs, we ride anywhere from 75-85 usually about 80 but if more people 85 and not many 75

yeah my guess is you need to calibrate your perfect pass.... the wake will definitely clean up and I have not seen one come out of the factory calibrated right. take a hand held gps out wiht you and I bet you find your problem.. real easy to calibrate
70'-75' is about where you want to be...

Can you not ride 85+ on these boats? Is the wake to wide or does it get too crusty?

no and not sure you would want too.... I would have to say 75-80 is pushing it... not too many boats you can still ride 80+ behind unless you are used to riding behind a narrow hull or like the super air... or if you like to ride fast you might be able to.
to answer your question yeah it will be both really wide and crusty.

Ideal wake on this boat will be at 65-70 feet at 22-23 mph. With that much ballast, you will probably need your wakeplate at around 50%.

I have mine GPS'd and we ride at 24.2-24.5 depending on how many people are in the boat. My length is usually 78 or 83 respectively. Ballast is around 2700lbs without people. Wakeplate is about 3/4 down, and the wake is big and clean.
