I know this has been discussed but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. The speakers in the front of my boat get a little wet from time to time when going through double-ups and in big water. I have ruined a pair of JL Audio and a pair of MB Quarts poly speakers. I am looking for volume with clarity in a marine speaker. I am thinking about the MB Quarts Kevlar series. Any other suggestions?

These Kenwoods are the Bomb :-)

We are putting 14 in every 23v as stock equipment. They are sealed VERY well, sound great and look pretty good too in all plastic construction so no rusting or fading of paint or coatings pealing off. The power handling and distortion seem very good to. We tried about 10 different styles of speakers out and even when price wasn't considered these still came out on top for our uses. The Polk Momo MMC6500 came in with equal quality, but they are WAY more expensive and not sealed very well at all. Good Luck.

I know the name isn't considered PREMIUM but these speakers sounded better at 80' than the mb quarts, sonys, alpines, pioneer, clarion, and boss 6.5" speakers we tried out. And they were on par with the Momo and Infinitys we tried. If you want the name and don't care about the dough or ability to withstand water go with the infinity marine speakers, they are insulated(but not as good as the Kenwoods) and sound pretty dam good, but are a bit pricey.

It sounds like a catche 22, there's pros & cons in all. sound always matters, as far as durabilty it depends on how ya take care of them. even though somethings can't be helped. I'll look into the infinitys. by the way, you sound like you work with boats. I repair them ( fiberglass) Thanks for the info.

go with the Alpine sps-170a or Polk DB series. They will hold up well to the elements and sound excellant.

I have the Alpine sps-170a's and they do sound great but the speaker coating stuff has starting coming off big and they look terrible

Ya, that's the problem I have been having. I am thinking about trying the Audiobahns but am still unsure. I am really looking for a "MARINE" speaker that was built to hold up against the elements. The MB Quarts and the JL's lasted for about two soakings a piece before they dried out and popped.

Ryan -
Were the MB Quarts and JL speakers marine speakers or car speakers? Which models?

What about Crossfire's new Marine components?? I haven't heard them, but they sure do look sharp. Anyone used them?
