2008 VLX solid hull-I would do the same scheme as the photo shoot boat. options would be:

docking lights
seat heater
three outlet heater
bow ballast
pop up bow light
two pair of cleats
power wedge
billet glove box door
depth finder
water cooled shaft seal
Monsoon 340hp
sound pack 3
transom remote
Dorsey twin axle trailer with upgraded twist wheels, swing tongue and prop guard wheel kit
1 pair pro 80 wetsounds
1 pair fundamental industries carbon board racks
fiberglass platform
cover
stainless silent tip exhaust

Did I miss anything or need to change anything around? What is a good price for this set up?

All I will need to buy in addition is a amp to run the tower speakers and the sub. I wanted to not have the open air fosgate and do a 12 in a box under the dash.

do the Titan swing in racks instead.

Did you consider...

No M-Grain Interior!!!
Rear sun deck walk-over
Transom Underwater Swim Light-Very cool!!!
Transom Flush Kit
Samson Tower Mirror
Go Titan on the racks!

I ordered mine without cup-holders in front of the windshield. Less of a chance for water to get in and fry the amps.

Malibu cruise standard and PP not listed as an option

Price just really depends on the dealer, your region, etc. It would be really hard to price it. Just add up all your options and shoot for 10-15% off MSRP is what I've always heard. I wouldn't think dealers are too eager to make incredible deals on 2008's this early but who knows.

don't forget a bimini...if you can i would personally go with an extreme trailer, but in some states you can't get them, i'd also recommend a full size spare tire with the undercarriage mount.

Thats all extra? or is that list including standard stuff as well? Just wondering. Sounds like its going to be a sweet ride.

Larry, why the reason for no m-grain? On the website and ISPEC that's all I see.

IMO the m-grain is much harder to clean and doesn't look as good. All of my bu's have not had m-grain except one. My wife hated it when it came time to clean the interior. Which was everytime we pull out. No m-grain is an option and it does cost a little bit more. But worth it!

you guys think 65 is good or is there more in it?
Old     (jonfo)      Join Date: May 2002       09-11-2007, 2:32 PM Reply
consider no power wedge, save $1500 or so and i like the manual one better. less stuff to break and you know if it is up or down.

one more thing, if you are loading it down with more than stock ballast, have the dealer put the high altitude prop on right away so you have more pull power with the 340.

Keep the power wedge, get a bimini, extreme trailer. If the racks you're talking about are the type they introduced last year, DO NOT buy them. They are crap. Get the Titan swing racks. I've heard nothing but praises about the the Titans.

If you want a nice stereo, get them to just install the wiring and holes. You can put in a much better system off the shelf. Make sure you have the second battery too. I think it's probably included when you go with a stereo other than the included stock one.

I thought that was a new MC you have? Already trading it in?

I second the m grain option. The seats are pretty hard to clean otherwise. I would also go with the power wedge and bimini.

Have Fun with your new boat!!

what's the difference in the mgrain and without...

mc to malibu how bout that. that is a nice mc by the way
Old     (fuller313)      Join Date: Oct 2006       09-13-2007, 7:04 AM Reply
the mgrain I believe is a smoother texture to the seats so the are way easier to clean. The stock version has more texture to it gets dirty inbetween the texture. My seats were fine in AZ but when I moved to TX (seems to have way more bugs and leaves here) and the boat is on a lift it seems to get a lot dirtier.

You do like the red boats. I liked the color scheme of your MC too.

M-grain is the textured vinyl, No m-grain is the smooth stuff.

Mine is being built as we speak...I didn't know about the mgrain stuff. I hope i'm not disappointed. I guess i understand that the mgrain is factory and has a texture, so i guess that's what i'm getting. Oh well if that's the only thing I'll be happy

Matt,

This is only my opinion, but the Titan Tower is the better tower.

It is 7 to 9 inches tall for one. So you can put any size or brand speakers you want without loosing head room when walking under it. The bimini top fits under the speakers. When you blast your tower system the bimini does block some of the loudness for those in the boat, but not to the rider. The Bimini is lower than the the Illusion bimini which creates more shade for passengers. The Titan is still easy to put down and has tons of accessories that can be use with Titan towers. Plus the Titan tower is rock solid and doesn't sway like the Illusion does. 4 point compared to two point mounting to boat does make is very strong.

My friend bought the 06 VLX at the same time I bought mine and he bought the Illusion tower. We go on pretty much all our family summer trips together. He always comments on how he wishes he bought the Titan III tower. He is tall and hits his head on the Illusion tower. The speakers are low and are always an obstical for passengers. The speakers are so loud in the cabin when turned up. He hardly turns the tunes up because of little children ears, due to lower speakers. The tower sways a lot with boards and speakers ect...and rattles. Titan is solid with no rattles.

When I got a tour of the Malibu factory it seems like most boats were leaving with the Illusion tower. I asked why and he told me that it is a different look that makes it popular, but the Titan tower is the better tower. He then gave me some of the reasons I gave you. This is before I placed my order, but it did help make up my mind.

My 2 Cents. Hope it helped.

I'll have to differ on the illusion. I have the tower and it is rock solid, by far the best tower I have ever had. The titan seems good too, but ease of use is not near as good.

The Illusion does not sway at all ever... and we got a lot of crap up there.

Brannon...what about the low bimini? From your profile pic it looks a bit low...have you run into headroom issues with that? Would you have been able to mount the speakers on the side of the Illusion tower to preserve headroom?
Old     (cbass)      Join Date: Mar 2007       09-13-2007, 1:17 PM Reply
Ya Brannon I dont know where you get that the titan tower has more head room? Maybe with no speakers and no bimini, but we have one with the illusion tower w/ the wetsound 80's and I am 6'3 and seem to have enough head room (even though i still have to bend down). The 1 bad thing about the illusion tower is that it does squeak. And as far as the tower speakers being to loud, there is a simple solution for that. Hook the tower speakers to the front speaker wires and the boat speakers to the rear wires. That way you can adjust the fade of the speakers to suit whatever you are doing. My favorite tower that malibu makes is the carbon tower with the 4 6x9's built in. The only bad thing about it is that the carbon fiber has some bad spots but that is something that happens when you are laying up the fiber. And yes I would go with the racks that swing in. That would make life a whole lot easier.

Yep, rock solid Illusion X here as well. I am very happy I went with it over the Titan.

The no "up front cup holders" is a good idea. Nobody uses them anyways. And put the front cleats right up there so you don't have to lean over the wind shield for tie offs. Illusion all the way. You get way more visibility and the bimini goes on top not between the struts, thus lowering head room on the titan. And it does not sway or creak with the right adjustments.

Mike my bimini is low, but my speakers are at least 11" to 12" down. (NVS)The bimini could of gone up around 4" tighter to the speakers, but I put my wakesurf board that doesn't fit on the racks between my bimini and my speakers, plus I kinda like the lower bimini look.

on my profile picture I think I am standing on my seat. I am only 5'9.

I know for a fact the Titan is taller, call a dealership. All I can say is a really like my Titan tower. Plus I like the look of it loaded with lights and racks . I wanted something different and knew it was a quality product. And no I don't work for Titan towers. I had to throw that out there since I sounded like a sales rep. LOL

brannon, "fullspeed" as in old school full speed surf shop? another s.c. boy whats up brotha. your titan looks sick. i love that tower when its powder coated. i almost went that route but i just love the illusion x, because there is nothing in your blind spot. and for me i have just loved and dreamed of my malibu with the illusion tower since it came out. im happy with it. very little vibration. i cant speak for the titan personally but it has a very clean simple look to it that i like.

hey brannon hit me up if you want to ride. im always down for more locals to car ride with when the surf is flat.

Bryan thanks for the offer. You work for Central Fire? I might be done for the year, I signed up for a ton of overtime to pay for all my summer fun and toys. The Full Speed is from the old surf shop. My First boat I bought used had that sticker across the windsheild in old english and alway thought it was cool.
