Been getting a little ridiculous lately in my opinion. Anyone else agree ?

I agree... unless someone asks for a specific opinion, there is no need for me to force my brand preference!!

"But I really think they should hear what I have to say" would work in theory, except EVERYONE thinks it.

Yeah. I would like a bit more true riders and less posers tring to promote product. Whats up? if you want to talk about a boat do. Dont brag about what you just bought or where you work. We are not a bunch of skiers. Try to keep that in mind. Its about the sun and riding. nobody really cares how loud your stereo is or how much your new boat costs. Just get on the water, respect other riders water space and freakin charge the wake!@!!

your nutz!

This site is everything wake related, and since boats make the wake they qualify as discussable topics. And since some people have the cash to pimp out there boats, there is nothing wrong product recognition.

And for the record I do want to know what speakers sound the best, are the loudest and how much they cost. Additionally I also want to know how much these pimped out boats cost and what people generally think of them.

You must not own a your own boat.

I'm with sirscott, I like seeing and showing, after all we are in the boats and boat accessories section of the board. One could always stay over in the "wakeboarding discussion" section, to stay more in line with their choice of topics.

ttuclint -- i hope that wasn't directed toward me and my Monster post. Personally, I think if someone has an excellent experience with a wakeboard specific company people here might want to know about it. Same holds true for crappy experiences. I'm just trying to help the bruthas out when it comes to future wakeproduct specific purchases.}

Danny, that might be funny if you with the first person to ever say Mastercrap. But I think most of our grandfathers beat you to it. Couple of generations too late buddy.

There's a difference between giving recognition to a product or company you are happy with, posing as a customer to promote your own product, or just bragging.

The first and the later are NOT breaking any rules or regulations. If I'm really happy with my boat, my dealer, my stereo, etc... locals would probably like to know so they can consider the same products and services. If I'm unhappy, I'll share the negative experience also.

i don't agree with people promoting their products so much...but like the old business adage - if you do good business, a customer will tell at least ten people about it...if you do bad business, that same customer will surely tell ten people about it. I think for the most part people on here are doing what they're supposed to do. I'm new to this whole game so i enjoy reading about products - good and bad - and learning. I also enjoy sharing in the enthusiasm of peoples' passions and new purchases. Kinda nice in my opinion to be able to shoot the breeze with people who are passionate about the same thing i am - especially since i'm the only person in about a 250 mile radius to even own a wakeboard in this state.

Jarrod, I agree with what you said, but there is a fine line between advertising and recognition of a product, I guess that's the tough job of the moderators. What makes it even tougher is the fact you have paid advertisers on the site who also actively participate in the forums.

Is this advertising or recognition?

I am new to wakeboarding and when I started looking a buddy told me about this page as a way to learn about products and boats good or bad.So I like a lot of you are always changing and buying different goodies. So for me it is really cool to here about how others feel and the cost of some of these things. So when I log on it is to boats and accessories.

Danny, that might be really funny if; you were the first to post that by making it yourself, you didnt join this forum last month, and you had a pic of your boat in your profile. Other than that its just boring, again.....

As a response to the question, it is a little out of hand when some put down products and services without the ever owning or using such product or service.....It's OK to be loyal to a company and let everyone know why, it's another to have to put down the compitition to make yours seem better.

Everything you ride, or use to ride, has been the result of profit and marketing. Socialism does not get us gear, boats, and places to ride.

I like all of the products being discussed. I live in a small town in Kansas. I have very little access to be able to test or even see products before I buy them. For me the only way I know about the new wakeboarding gear is from the net. I think for the most part the reviews from this site are pretty good. There are always people with owners goggles and haters but you can usually see thrue those people.

I wasn't directing this at anyone in particular. I just feel this forum is becoming more like one biased advertising thread after another.

I have no problem with people posting about the products they have bought and what experience they have had with them. What I don't like is when a person clearly has a bias towards one product and then proceeds to provide a link to where they can buy whatever they are promoting. Seems a little fake to me at times so it becomes harder to differentiate between the average joes and their opinions vs. someone who is out to advertise for someone.
Old     (twakess)      Join Date: Mar 2002       03-23-2006, 9:44 AM Reply
Clint, you can pretty much tell when someone is trying to promote a product. One we have never seen their name posted and also when they have like 1 or 2 post. I just stay away from them.

Sam, I don't see that link as a advertisement. Grant and Clay bring a great deal of info to this site and have helped many others with their problems. To me he is just showing us a good product and would like to share it with us. If it passes Grants approval than we know its good.

yes, us regulars can, but the newbies maybe not so much. besides that it just gets annoying after a while.

tough one. i think its interesting that some of the people that posted on here have been around less than two months. and then bash someone's boat or gear for the hell of it. how would you know what you like on this site? or how to act when you're on it? but, welcome and enjoy. you'll get it...

Secondly, I agree with Jon. I have a local shop but there's no way they could ever stay on the cutting edge of this sport. especially with accessories. So I like to read about cool stuff

Karl - i agree with you. nothing is ever sold without marketing. vendors should buy a spot in the banner if you want to market your product. then I can go to your site and check it out. BTW you've always been classy about it. Monster too. As stated above, take care of your customer and people will know about it.

Fourth, in reference to the above thread, I think that was handled pretty well by the roswell dude. informative, laid back, q & A type of stuff and some pics no one had seen. nothing pushy.

I think it gets pretty damn redundant though. People need to search more often before they ask something. there is a limited number of current threads. and nobody care about isolators (just an example, so don't get your panties in a knot if you just posted about hooking one up). if you search for it, chances are you'll find more than you can read in a day on many, many topics that have been discussed here.

anybody remember SeaSick? no longer here.... another thing i don't really like (will probably piss someone off, cause i see it alot) is plugging your site/company every time you post! stop it, unless we're talking about something on your site!

Squid, I have to disagree, that post is a blatent example of exactly what this whole post is about. I think you may have summed it up best...."If it passes Grants approval than we know its good" what better person to advertise for you then? I always give a company the benfit of the doubt, but with increased competition you bring alot "ethics isusses" into play. If somone other than Grant (similar post count) would have posted the info regarding some other brand of tower speakers would it be advertising? The psot woudl have been more informative to me if real end users would post about the product ( I understand it was proabbly difficult seeing as the product was just released) but maybe more about the companies past products, instead of the owner doing a Q & A , who unfortunately is bias towards his product (or at least I would hope he is) Grant you do amazing work and enjoy reading about your installs. Just wanted to voice my opinion on this.}

Sam, I think the line of advertising needs to be taken in perspective. Grant (Sound Illusions) brought up a product that is new and had a large front page article on Wakeworld. On top of that Roswell is a sponsor of this site, they pay for you to post here. Think about that and know when to draw a difference between some schmo trying to promote their lame t-shirt company with free advertising vs a paying advertiser and someone stoked on their product.

Sam, if your read the post (grant wrote) I guess the LEDs caught my eye, I feel like a moth to a light LOL. At closer inspection of the website is see the can's are split in the middle and one of the cans can be rotated to point down into the boat or completly rotataed to point forward. Check out the website. I know Im a geek but I think thats cool.
I wonder if the location of the LED puck gets in the way of the sound of the tweeter its covering???

Its not like this. Oh look at this new prouct I just found. Check this out. So I don't see that as a blatent example.

Big Heavy, I never saw the article, I'll take your word for it. So, is it safe to assume if you pay for advertising on the site then you are exempt from the stipulation in the posting rules, that states your not allowed to advertise in the forums?
Old     (wake1823)      Join Date: Dec 2005       03-23-2006, 10:43 AM Reply
Squid , I agree with what your sayign about Grant's post, but read the title.

"Check out these Roswell speakers" =

as you say "Oh look at this new prouct I just found. Check this out"

That is advertising.

I guess in someone elses eyes it is advertising. But if you know Grant like most of us here do. We all know he drops serious amounts of cash on his boat and also installs fat systems that most of us will never beable to have. I know that Grant could care less about pushing them. He dose custom stuff so thats kinda useless adverstising for him.
Old     (denverd1)      Join Date: May 2004 Location: Tyler       03-23-2006, 10:50 AM Reply
how is that advertising? Do you think Grant cares about who makes the speakers? or that he is somehow better off for posting that? Roswell may be, but thats because they made a good product that got grants recognition.
Old     (deuce)      Join Date: Mar 2002       03-23-2006, 10:52 AM Reply
I see absolutely nothing wrong with the Roswell thread. In fact, I don't think that Marc could have responded better(seems like that has become the focus).

So Sam...do you somehow feel like Marc contacted Grant and said, hey....post something about my new speakers?

This is not some fruitcake posting "X Brand Boat, have you heard of them?" and then he turns out to sell that brand or whatever.....

In conclusion... Can anyone tell me who makes the best boat?

IMO, Advertising should be left to the home page. Discussions about products that people currently own and/or are interested in owning should be here.

That being said, I would agree with Clint… Seriously, why would I ever post a message talking about how amazing my Sanger V215 is, or the quality sound that I get every time I turn up the clarion CD player with the IPOD interface and hear the 6 JL Audio Components and 10" sub, or that Sampson Sports has by far the most impressive quick release JL Audio Component tower speaker setup, and of course they sound the best when I'm on my hyperlite wakeboard purchased from Mahopac Marine and ING Sport, and lets not forget how much i'm enjoying the new Land Rover LR3 tow rig.

Ya, nobody wants to see that :-) Keep the posts coming, anything to fill the void between one wakeboard season and the next. Soon we'll be back to posting about all the new tricks we pulled!!
Sweet Times!

I'm playing devil's advocate and voicing an opinion. EJ, I don't feel that is the case as Grant seems like a standup guy running a stellar business, but people will draw their own conclusions. I'll leave grant's name out of the rest of my posts as this issue really doens't have anyhting to do with him in particular. In general most stereo shops, custom or not have "authorized dealer" agreements with various companies.

Sam I never said exempt, you seem to have a miscontrued view of advertising and product stoke. Oh man I can't wait for you to describe your new board or _______, people are going to jump all over it as advertising.

Try this: Don't like it, don't read it. Problem solved. Your Ad-Meter is off, let the actual moderators be the judge. Heck if you got beef, let Mr Williams know, he owns the thing and is the chief moderator. Or you could just not trust your out of whack Ad-Meter.

Advertising is the activity of attracting public attention to a product or business, as by paid announcements in the print, broadcast, or electronic media.

I'm wrong I guess technically to be considered advertising someone has to be paid, take out the paid and I'm right.

Big Heavy, I understand the word exempt was not used by you....that is just the way I interpreted it. you said there was a difference between a schmo advertising for free and paid advertising by someone stoked on their product. I took the difference as it being ok to advertise if your paying and stoked on the product. Is this a wrong assumption?

Man winter is getting to some people cant wait till summer.
But Serious: I get hit with advertising everyday
I guess its the blatent advertising that I object to, LOL the subliminal stuff go's right over my head LOL. When what Clint is complaining about its done here seem's pretty odvious and I just skip to the next post. Squid talked about low post count and other's talked about sighns that tip them off. If you cant spot the blatent advertising and your afraid of being victimized from a add campain please get off the internet and close your windows and shut off your TV. I post links for products (Good and Bad) all the time and will keep doing so and I encourgae outher to do the same. No harm no foul.

"Ding Ding" the door bell
I have to go UPS is at the door with my free set of LED Roswell Swivle Tower speakers.

Maybe I am being too simplistic, but I agree with Richard.... You don't have to click on the link, or if you do, and find it is an advertisement, or something you don't like or agree with, just don't read it, don't get into the argument/mix, etc. It should be that easy.

This is a discussion board, so there should be some room for discussion, debate, etc. What I don't agree with is the spamming, posters with 1 or 2 posts throwing out a product, etc.

Yes Sam that is the wrong assumption, if you read my original post it says "difference between some schmo trying to promote their lame t-shirt company with free advertising vs a paying advertiser and someone stoked on their product." Grant is not paid by Roswell, he is just a (well informed) user who is excited to see a new product that he might be able to incorporate into his craft. Roswell affords us all to post through their advertising, one of our most educated (on this subject) users recognized something new & cool and pointed it out. The fact that Grant thinks its cool says something to the product. This is loads different than the douchebag who owns Douchebag T-shirts and wants everyone to know about the sick new products they have. The fact that Roswell is a paid advertiser makes it legit, why else would they advertise? Get people stoked on their goods, nothing else!

Reps from wake and boat companies have often spoken up here to defend their products which are sometimes being bashed unfairly (sometimes the bashing is fair also). Are they only allowed to be on the defense? Free speech! If you don't like it, don't visit.
