I saw a few weeks back about a cooler liner for built in coolers on boats. My cooler will not hold ice worth crap and now I cant find that post ro a website that sells a liner for coolers that you can take out and put back in. Anyone have any of these soft coolers that you can put in their boat cooler?

These cooler bags are great. Load them up at home & take them to the boat full of ice & drinks, and just put it in the cooler space under the seat. Then haul out all the garbage in it when you leave the boat.
But they don't keep ice worth a dam. Last year I started freezing all our bottled water. When I load the cooler, I use frozen water bottles instead of ice. Now I have cold water, drinks & a lot less mess.

I find that the cooler bags vary a great deal with their ability to keep ice from melting. I grabbed one from K-mart for $15 and the ice melted pretty fast. Now I'm using one from http://www.polarbearcoolers.com and it keeps the ice loooong time, so I'm stoked with. I also just noticed that they have bag coolers at Costco for $7. They aren't as thick as my Polar Bear, so I doubt they retain ice for long, but for $7 it seems like it's worth a try!

Is there any way to insulate the outside of your factory cooler? I noticed that mine has 3-4 inches of what looks like spray foam around it. It holds ice pretty well. I dont like to use it though because its too small. We usually put a few bags of chips or other stuff and use it like dry storage. It works out best for me to just fill up a full size icechest and we put that in the boat..works great! doubles as a table w/cupholders. We also move it around like ballast too.

The cooler bag is great, but it doesnt drain. I solved that problem by putting a series of brass grommets on the bottom to allow the water to drain, but the ice to stay. We'll see how it holds ice this summer. I will try to post pics tonight.
