Hi pass or not..........recommendations

Well just curious as to what most people are doing with their amps settings wise.

I am running a Kicker zx700.5 to run my 4 Polk DB coaxs in my cabin and a Kicker 12 sub. Was looking for some input on whether I should run the amp in hi pass mode for the cabins or leave it alone and make adjustments from there.

I am also running a kicker Zx 450 .2 for my (2) 6.5 Bullet Hlcd towers. Currently they are in hi pass mode. Think they should stay there or should I take it off hi pass and adjust them?

I have all of my cabin speakers set up on high pass. It gets the speakers playing in the range they were designed for and you have much less chance of destroying them. However If you are powering a sub off of the same amp this method won't work unless you have more than one input and can adjust the hp/lp filter for each input.

All amplified in-boat coaxials should run highpass in a boat even if you don't have a sub and even if you are using the lowest available highpass setting. 6.5" coaxials are not going to extend down to 50 Hz anyway in any scenerio so remove the excess excursion and listen how much cleaner they are in the midbass and midrange...not to mention they will play louder. The amplifier will also perform better with its responsibility narrowed.

what about a set like the polk mm series that come with the x overs?

Those passive crossovers address the division between the midbass and tweeter which is six octaves away from the active frequency we are discussing.
