Out for a set yesterday evening when my boat suddenly shut off! When tried to go, the boat made a cranking sound then a loud boom and the engine shut off. Any idea what this could be? I was thinking transmission.
What year? Take a look at the bell housing. Is it cracked? I have heard of the flex plates springs coming apart. Indmar has updated there flex plates. That's my guess. Good luck.
The bell housing is located in front of the engine and behind the trans. The trans is attached to the bell housing. Looks for cracks all around. You may need a flash light. Have you tried to turn it over? What happens?
no i was in the water i came in the boat and got pulled in by someone! i took it out of the water. I was too scared to start it, afraid i would cause more damage.
If it is the flex plate you will need to take it to a shop. It is a big job. Just turn the key, dont start the boat. You will hear rattling around the trans.
