What is the difference in the 22 SSV that allows only 9 passengers, as compared to 13 passengers in the 21V? Doesn't seem to make much sense. The 22 is about 6" longer than the 21V.

The 22SSV's seat doesn't wrap around the captains chair. It's set up like an X-1.

It's also not as wide as the 21V.

nor as deep (freeboard). Either boat can safely handle 13 people IMO. But the driver needs to be extra cautious in both boats.

why would it not be as wide? Is it to make the wake narrower? Otherwise, why would the make a larger boat not as wide? just curious.

The width at the widest point (beam measurement) is not the same as the measurement of the widest point below the waterline.

IMO, the wake on the 21V is wider than the 22SSv.

I agree. I do think the wake is more narrow in the 22SSv. Just trying to comprehend why Supra would make a boat bigger than the 21V, and take away 4 passengers. Don't get me wrong, I love both boats. I just don't see much difference in room. Not enough to allow only 9 pass. on the 22.

The 21v came later

i am pretty sure that jon is correct. the 22 ssv has been around longer than the 21v. If my memory is correct this is the 2nd year the 21v has been produced.

the 22ssv is more of a crossover boat where the 21v is more hardcore wakeboarding. The 22 is a happy medium for someone doing both wakeboarding and slalom/recreation. Not sure where I heard it but I think they are making the 22 a little deeper and maybe wider for 07.

Supra has had the 21v hull for along time in the form of a direct drive but the 21v is only a couple of years old. The 22ssv has been around for quite a while. I know that it was the boat with the gravity games package before the 24 came out.
From Supra's websight.
22ssv came about in 2001
21v showed up in 2005.

was the 21v hull the old launch direct drive, or was it one of the sunsports?

Jon is right on the 21V hull's history, only made as a V last year. First appeared in the early 90's Sunsports, and then became the Launch in 98 or 99. Why Skier's Choice waited until '05 to put together a Vdrive version is beyond me?

The 21V's hull is deeper and wider than the SSV, and is said to have better storage layout than the SSV. I haven't spent enough time in an SSV to know, but the 21V has lots.

13 people is going to be really cramped in either boat, and probably borderline dangerous with much ballast & gear.

Ironically, both boats are long enough that they don't have a max capacity by law. The tags are CYA for the mfr, AFAIK. The tag in my VLX only states only that its construction met the standards in effect at the time.
