I have read many threads regarding the mechanics of the tricks and how to actually throw it, but I have been wondering about the ideal setup to use when learning the new trick.

As of last weekend, I was riding at 70 feet out and 22 mph behind our X1 with just factory ballast filled and two people in the boat. I can do HS and TS W2W, many different grabs, HS and TS W2W frontside 180's, and grabbed frontside 180's.

I'm ready to try the roll some more, but don't know what conditions to try it under. Should I empty the ballast and ride at 65? Or should I slow the boat down to about 20? Both? Neither?

Your input is appreciated... I want an invert by the end of this summer!

You should add another 1500 pounds of ballast, let your rope out 5 feet bump the speed up a touch and try and boost it big wake to wake. Your wake has a lot more potential, oblige yourself.

Honestly, don't change what you are used to, if you do then you have to deal with a new riding setup as well as a new trick. Stick where you are comfortable.

This trick is easy, don't over think it. Just edge, release and hold on with both hands. Most people throw the trick down, this is bad. As you come in just be thinking UP and if you get a good release it completes itself.

One small thing, when I was learing this one, I had trouble pulling it all the way off. For a while I would get really close every time, but not quite pull it off. Just make sure you don't get used to not sticking it and really get the idea that everytime is the time you're going to get it. This probably applies to every new trick, but I really found it with this one.

Oh yeah, and I agree with Big Heavy. Make sure you see what that hull can do with some weight in it. You'll like what you find.

I disagree on going with a longer line. Unless you're regular wake jumps are way out in the flats stick with your line length or go 5' shorter to try a new trick. Throw it HARD-better to overrotate. Good luck-such an easy invert once you get it down.

Thanks for the responses guys...

I'll try to throw it at the same length, maybe 5 shorter, and same speed.

Schooledrider - I know what you mean by being better to overrotate. On my third try I came up just short and caught my nose edge to facesmack. That sheot hurts.

I don't know if im ready to slam the X1 just yet; it'll give me something to look forward to next season and give me some time to get my skills down, as well as saving me a couple pennies at the gas pump if you know what I mean. And once I turn to the dark side I'll never want to go back!

Any other input is appreciated.
