i just never thought it would be me. i broke my femur completely in half on a scarecrow last friday, which just so happened to be "good" friday. the x-rays are pretty nasty and it should be another 8 weeks till i can board, 7 till i can wakesurf. im not exactly sure how it broke i didnt hit anything in the water. i landed it then bounced hard and the nose dug in(so people tell me) and i found myself in the water in excrutiating pain. at first i thought my binding came off the board, or the board snapped in half. then i thought my knee popped out of socket. and finally i felt my bones grinding together and realized i completely shattered my femur. it wasnt a clean break either, it looks like it was from the pressure because it broke and then cracked all the way up into my pelvis. so now i have like 40 stitches and a metal plate with 4 screws in my leg. yeah it really sucks

Did you say you broke your Femur in half, plates, screws, stitiches, and you'll be riding in 8 weeks?

wow. I broke my ulna and both forarm bones in half, right in the middle. It was a high impact motorcycle accident when I was younger. Anyways the reason I mention this is because the pain and recovery was not fun. It took me years to gain strength, mobility, and dexterity. I can only imagine a femer break. OUch. I feel for you man. I am sorry to hear about that. I had 12 screws and 2 plates. The problems is right when you get your muscle, strength, and comfort backi...they want you to go back in and remove the screws and plates...putting you right back to square one. I waited 4 years even thought hey wanted to remove the screws and plates after a year. I just coulnt handle another surgery one year after the accident. I was just happy to be snowboarding, wakeboarding, and being active again. Take Care

Sorry to hear that Justin, did the pain die down after a while or did it last all the way to the hospital? Were you able to get your gear off or did they cut it off?

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe since he doesn't have the rod like Chris it's different?

Did your doctor tell you that or are you just being optimistic? It took my kid 8 months!

More and more femur breaks - not good!

The Ulna is the little bone on the corner of your wrist. It was a compound fracture so the bone ripped through the skin and was sticking out. The bone was so badly broken it looked like a splintered white tree branch. They used a pin to hold my wrist together for a while.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Justin, just make sure you stay on top of keeping the rest of your body in top shape so you don't lose the conditioning on your upper body. Stay with the PT and when it is time, you will be ready.

i think i broke my knee in a real similar fashion. tybial plateau fracture. i landed on a o/a 5 (similar to scarecrow landing) with weight to far back, I bounced on the water, then landed off the bounce with a straight leg. 8 wks no walking. I was 19. now i'm 24 and ride better than ever. good luck

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Don't tell me these things!! Hearing this doesn't give me much confidence to attempt arials like that. Sprain an ankle, stretch a tendon but NOT what you just described!!!!!

My leg hurts.........

I know how you feel bro! I did mine two weeks ago on a skate just going w2w and my front foot sliped off when i landed. They put a rod down my femur with three lag bolts going through! This is what mine looked like.

Join the club Justin, and good luck with your recovery. 8 weeks isn't to bad, I got 8 more weeks (on top of the 7 already) before I can put any weight on my leg. I guess being half me age works in your favor recovery wise.

My season will be limited to being 190 lbs of ballast. Had to officially cancel my two week trip to Parker in june last night
