I have a don joy knee brace, which obviously is not the same but my point is that you cannot go wrong with don joy. if you had 3 anterior dislocations in one year, that will most likely require surgery, but luckily for shoulder dislocations, strengthening and PT work wonders. A good strengthening program is actually more effective than surgery believe it or not.

I just got the Donjoy brace two weeks ago and it works great. It's expensive but it does the trick. I was going to try and make one myself and happened to stumble across their brace after reading a medical study on shoulder braces. http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=419509

It's restrictive as you want it to be, and can hinder your riding a little until you get use to it. I have a friend who injured his same shoulder and we have both used it several times already and haven't had any issues.

Rehap and Weightlifting may have reduced my dislocations but reattaching my torn ligaments surgically has complete eliminated my dislocations.

Not saying rehap isn't helpfull but depending upon the damage in your shoulder surgery may be your only option.

^^ Same for me. I could never get through any rehab basically because I'd pop my shoulder before I got anywhere and go back into the sling for a month... After surgery to have the ligaments reattached not one dislocation in 6 years.

also people who were the donjoys do you wear them on top of or under your impact vest? just tinking of sizing or did you cut a hole in your vest for the strap to go through?

I helped do product testing not for donjoy but for the original mfg that was the first to release this type of shoulder brace. It got me through the summer until I could have the surgery. Nothing will totally stop shoulder dislocations until you have the surgery. What a lot of people dont realise is that everytime you dislocate your shoulder and "pop" it back in, you are tearing cartilage and stretching those ligaments even more. I had 5 dislocations and bones in my shoulder area were starting to fracture. Every time I had it set at the ER because it wouldnt go back on my own.

That brace should do what you are looking for Ross, but I would still take it easy, you can still dislocate you shoulder if you fall hard enough, and getting out of some braces with a dislocated shoulder means cutting the brace off. (and yes, wear it under your vest, it needs to be really tight to your shoulder to do its job)
