first pics is my 86 sn2001 with only 1000 pounds or so and a couple people. second pic is of an 89 supra saltaire with no weight but like 7 people. its two totally different wakes. the saltair is really mellow and the nautique is really vert just like the old 210. add 600 more pounds to the nautique and it gets even better!

Hey Brian, nice ride! Do you have some pics of your boat that you can send me? I'm looking for some ideas for my own.

You don't hear a lot about the pre-2001 hulls on here, but they can really kick up a good wake - it's obvious in your pic. I've been booted as high behind my boat as the MC 205 that I usually ride behind.

Hey Mike,

I'm not sure I have anything too great of the boat, but feel free to hit up http://picasaweb.google.com/briankauf

You'll see some shots of me re-doing all the teak on the boat (sand it down and re-oil and it looks like new). I'll be following up with re-doing the interior over the winter.

The shots you saw there are with two 440 fat sacks on either side of the engine, about 120 in the bow and 4 ppl in the boat (2 front, 2 back)... full loaded I run, 440 in the rear, 2 440s on either side of the engine and about 160-200 in the nose.

It kicks a MEAN wake under those conditions! Which boat do you have? Any pictures? Post up!

BTW- in that gallery, you'll see my hot-ass fiance! She's a Chem PhD student, smart, sexy AND she can drive a boat! I'm so so lucky ;-)

I don't own my own boat yet, however I am considering buying an 87 Supra Sunsport. Anyone have any experience w/ this boat?
Old     (denwbaseball)      Join Date: Apr 2007       07-26-2007, 6:37 AM Reply
I just bought one derek....same year and everything, havn't put any weight in it yet and have never riden in a wakeboat before this one so my opinion on the wake might not be the best.haha But I really like it!

sunsport hull is pretty close to early launch hulls, i think. pretty sure they kick out a similar wake. Shouldn't be disappointed.

Nice boats fellas, I need to upload the cam, I'll throw one up.

I've ridden in an older sunsport and if you weight it properly, you'll have a very respectable wake. Certainly a lot better than anything you're likely to get from an I/O (though I have seen a rare I/o with a great wake)... it's still all about inboards :-)

Brian what prop are you running on the boat?
Old     (madison_boarder)      Join Date: Apr 2006       07-26-2007, 12:25 PM Reply
I think it's actually the prop that came standard on the boat! It's a three-blade brass prop of some sort. When I have some money (none now, jsut got a ring :-)), I'll get some sort of acme 4 blade, but for now, this one works just fine.

Luciano,

You have the same color scheme on your Nautique as I have! Different interior and yours is in better shape than my exterior... looks nice!

Brian, almost everyone seems recommend the ACMEs 540 and 542 for our boat, the 540 for most appplications and the 542 for wakeboard (1000plus ballast).
I'm in the process of getting one for the summer and i'm looking for wake pics of a 80-81 SN with either prop.

Brian - Looks good! You and I have similar boats. Have a look at my profile and you'll see what I'm talking about. Yep, the old Nauty's kick up a good one. Thanks for the link, man.

Beautiful boat, Mike! I just got mine a month and a half ago. Over the winter I'm gonna put her in the ole shop and re-do the interior (carpet/upholstery), the paint and the trailer. Should be a good time...

does anyone know if Correct Craft supplies stencils for the older nautiques??

Luciano,

I don't think the prop is going to change the wake at all, just your efficiency getting there :-) That said, I've heard the 542 as well, and I'll likely get one next spring (only so much money :-)).

Let me know what sort of results you see!

Brian, yes the prop surely DOES affect the wake.

Different types of blades give the boat more or less lift at the stern. In fact, I was told the 540 and 542 lift the back of the boat, increasing holeshot, top speed and mellowing the wake.

Just need someone nice enough to send the pics.

interesting. I am not sure I want to change the prop then : ) The hole shot is great and who wants to mellow a Nautique wake :-)

Luciano, I don't think that is correct. The prop only does one thing --- provide thrust. A different prop is just like a higher or lower gear, but the hull moving thru the water creates the shape of the wake. Some props could provide more or less turbulence right behind the boat but that's about it.

Very nice boat in your profile pic by the way.

Rich, thanks for the compliment on the boat, Im quite happy with it.

As for the prop, I must disagree with you, a prop does not only provide thrust, there are many other factors involved in a propeller, such as pitch, blade diameter, blade surface, cup, and many other I must be unaware of.

Just to give you an example, a 4 blade prop or the new 3 blades props because of the extra surface, will make the prop runs higher on the water. If a hull runs higher on the it will have less drag, a more leveled planning angle, wich will improve fuel milleage, hole shot, top speed, handling. It will allow you to weight the boat evenly also fine tuning the wake.
