Have to agree with the win-some and lose-some deal when it comes to 3 stage vs continuous and stuff.
I have both an older '07 recoil and a 2010 response. switched to the response because my style was changing to where i was enjoying taking jumps way out in the flats more. making the switch i was anticipating less use of energy, but i noticed that I felt like i had to wait a little longer before I could cut back in with the return of line tension, so the energy/time expenditure i was hoping to decrease stayed about the same.
I did not notice a huge difference in pop except for when i was doing double ups. doubleups were more a controlled pop on the response and i kept my control better, but for some reason i missed more of them... kind of another trade-off. huh
Soft landings has always been one of the main driving factors for my choice of gear and style. though landings out in the flats was super fun, i was missing the wake-to-wake soft landings. I lengthened the rope to keep both worlds. this made the wait to cut back in shorter, but i was also riding with a longer line, so the energy/time thing was still the same. haha, but i got my extra soft landings again.
I have not tried the reflex, or any of the 2011 stuff for that matter, but i bet the reflex would be perfect for me considering all that i said above. Its supposed to be a middle-ground between the two, but i shied away due to the chined rails.
