Has anyone had problems with the stiff steering on a 99 ProAir. I replaced the cable last year and it's still stiff. Any ideas to correct would be appreciated.

Has either end of the cable gone under water? A tiny bit of corrosion can cause the problem. Could there be someting kinking the cable, like a ballast tank?

My 1983 Nautique steered with one finger until I sold it in 2000, the 1995 I now have is on it's second cable. I am not a fan of the double rack and pinion system with tilt wheel.

I'd check the cable routing and the support tube for the cable at the transom.

Excess bends in the cable can cause stiffness and so can an over tightened support tube.

My MC used to have the lightest steering of any boat I have driven until i replaced the cable and put some bends in it. After that it was real stiff. A bit of re-routing solved the problem.
