My family has been looking into buying a mastercraft 205 and while looking I found a 1989 Sport Nautique for sale nearby which I am very unfamiliar with. Through pictures the boat appears to be in good condition. The boat has 488 hours. It has a new starter and rebuilt carb. I am fairly certain that we could get the boat for about $11,000. I was wondering if anyone has ridden behind this boat and knows what type of wake it will put out. Also, is the price reasonable. Should we just stick with a 1996 or so mastercraft 205 for around $20,000. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

NADA for an '89 is only 7,200. NADA on the MC is more around 16K. Both boats are overpriced. If it came down to it and the money difference is not a problem, I would get the MC. Same hull as the X-2 from '96 on.

I guess it is actually a '90 sport nautique. Anyone know what the wake's like or can make comparisons to other boats?

I have a '90 sport. It throws a pretty good wake w/ about 1200 lbs of water. I've been happy w/ mine so far and have had it for a couple years. There are a couple things about it that I'd like to change but for my first boat no complaints! I'd probably go w/ the 205 comparing the 2 but you'd have a great boat either way. If you have anymore questions about the nautique I'd be happy to give you more details.

Also..as for price.....I think it is getting hard to get any competition ski boats that are open bow for under 10K. With wakeboarding getting so popular and the new boat prices heading sky high it's keeping the older ones up in value.
